1AM knock from the sheriff. He kindly told us that it is day parking only. We could stay the rest of the night. He suggested next time go south the road to Libbey Beach Park and there we could stay, no problemo.

stayed for 2 nights, if you're coming from the roundabout it's on your right hand side.

2 ppl in one room with 2 single beds and a fan. private bathroom only available for rooms with double beds, so we had to use the shared bathroom in the hallway which wasn't the end of the world as we were the only people here.

paid 12000 a night for the two of us which is pretty decent in my opinion. staff was pretty friendly and place was clean enough. wifi's a bit slow and there was no hot water in the shared shower, not sure about the private bathrooms.

also it's pretty easy to walk to the old city centre from here, but it does take about 30 minutes.

Nice spot reasonably flat right in town. Parking all day is 500 or 1000 depending on size (9-5), overnight appears to be free. We were directed here by the tourist info office.

we ended up spending the night at the border as we arrived just after it closed.

we stayed with a trucker at the petrol station a bit closer to the border, but this one is honestly so much nicer. we asked our trucker why nobody went to this shell one and he said that the old petrol station has a lot of history and truckers have been going there for decades.

we did walk over to this petrol station though as it actually had free wifi! (just go inside and ask for the password) it also had a very clean modern toilet

stayed here with a trucker who gave us a lift to the border. the whole place is very very old. there's a brand new shell petrol station a bit further back which is soooo much nicer + it has free wifi and a free clean bathroom. so if you're camping I'd definitely recommend going to the shell petrol station instead of this one.

the reason you'll see all the truckers parked here instead of at shell is just because they've been coming to this one for decades, but it's definitely better to stay at shell if you're camping!

Morocco to Mauritania:
easy border crossing. crossed without vehicle.
checked out of the Moroccan side without any issues and then started walking across to Mauritania. it's honestly quite far, but after about 20 minutes of walking a car drove past who offered us a free lift to the Mauritanian side.

my friend didn't have 55 euros to pay for the Mauritanian visa, so she had to pay in MAD.
ended up paying 650 mad which is about 60 euros.

Exchanged our last 100 dirham at 3.8 ouguiya/ mad, official exchange rate that day was 3.95

Also it's worth noting that here, and in Mauritania in general, people usually still talk about money using the old currency, which has an extra 0
So for instance if a taxi driver is saying a short ride will cost "deux milles" (2 thousand) he actually only means 200 ouguiya

police tried to make us buy a ticket and told us it's no longer possible to ride the empty train(which isn't true)

probably the easiest way to avoid this is by just going a few hundred metres further down the track (east side) and jump on there. passenger carts stop at the station, but they're all the way at the very end of the train, so most of the train will drive past the station before stopping and you can just jump in there

Stayed above on the parking lot; just a big open and levelled space. As said before it's still not possible to drive down with a 2WD, but it's nice enough up here!

stayed here after riding the iron ore train. checked in at 1am which wasn't a problem at all, just message them beforehand to let them know. had a hot shower and there's also wifi available here when we stayed (although I'm still not sure if it was actually wifi or just a personal hotspot)! paid 800 for 2 ppl in a private hut

not sure why this place has been marked as closed, it's definitely still open.

just drive to the very end of the road and you'll find this oasis, you do have to walk the last few hundred metres. it costs 200 (per person) to visit the oasis for the day and another 300 (per person) if you want to sleep in one of the tents there.
If you have your own tent you can put it up for 200 a person I believe it was
Food is also available for about 200/300 a meal. the guy working here, Jamal, is absolutely lovely!

Western toilet available.
Also you can actually drink the water from the oasis, just ask Jamal and he'll show you where to get it from.
No wifi and no phone service at the oasis.

nice place, stayed in a hut on the roof for 800/ night (2 people)
Both single beds came with a mosquito net, which we were very thankful for!
shared shower and toilet, which don't have a roof, but that's definitely not a bad thing.

restaurant available on site, but quite expensive. because of this we didn't have anything, but to be fair, the food did look amazing and if you're not on a tight budget, you should definitely try the food!

they'll also let you use the kitchen if you buy your own food. just keep in mind that they use this same kitchen for their restaurant so it can be quite busy if you try to use it around dinner time.

It's also possible to pay with revolut here, which was perfect for us!

crossed on foot from Mauritania to Senegal.

showed up and instantly got approached by about a billion guys all saying stuff to me in French. I don't really speak french and I feel like it's a good thing as it made it a lot easier to ignore them.

Just keep walking till someone in a uniform tells you to show him your passport. he then gave our passport to some other random guy who took us to a window where we got stamped out of Mauritania.
The guy that just took our passports then asked for money. We asked him why and he said we should give him money because everything else here was free, the visa is free, the boat is free, so we might as well give him some money. We told him no and he got angry, but eventually gave up.

just before getting on the boat I finally agreed to exchange my remaining 550 ouguiya. managed to get 7500 CFA for it (official exchange rate 8400 CFA)
first offers we received were as low as 3000 CFA.

they will also tell you it's impossible to exchange your money on the other side of the river, which simply isn't true.

We then tried to get on the ferry, but some guy stopped us and tried to sell us a ticket for the ferry.
The ferry is free, so we just laughed at him and got on anyways. He yelled something at us in french, no idea what he said, but don't think it was very friendly.

On the Senegalse side we got off the ferry and someone in uniform was waiting to collect everyone's passports. We then had to go to another building where he eventually brought everyone's passports to and we got stamped into Senegal.

Then walked for a bit, away from all the taxis, and then from there managed to hitchhike to Saint Louis

After reading all the reviews we were wondering what our experience would be like. I am very happy to report we had a great stay here. Campsites are large and most have some shade. The camp is neat and well maintained. The ablutions were good. Not great but better than a lot of others. They were cleaned every morning. The pool was crystal clear and very refreshing. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We would happily stay here again. Well done NWR.

we contacted Ali in advance and he came to pick us up at the monument and took us to his house right away because we arrived in the evening. he let us choose if we want to sleep in the traditional open marsh house or in our car (both options for free, there is good wifi as well), we even got extra dinner we didnt ask for and were not expected to pay for ( just simple food - bread, some tomatoes and fried potatoes and tea). first price for the tour he asked for 15 000 per person for 1 hour but when we told him other people got it for half price and that it seems too expensive for us he agreed to 15 000 total for the 2 of us. we tried to find out how much would dinner cost but he kept throwing other things into the price and it was complicated to discuss through a translator so we just decided to get the tour only. we ended up getting the basic dinner anyway so next day we gave him 25 000 instead of 15 000. He is really a fair and kind man, you just need to have patience with the translator. we also refilled 20 l of drinking water from him
