Border KAZ-RUS | Customs and Immigration

Does anybody know if the border is closed on Sundays? We would appreciate any information as we couldn't get any. Thanks

Long queues when we arrived at 11pm.

We are 2 people driving a GB car:
2.5 hours for the Kazakh side.
30 min for the Russian side.

Warning: there were Russian police checkpoint just over the Russian border, they checked our car documents and insurance, make sure you got yours.

From Russia to Kazachstan, very straight forward, very friendly on both sides. They even joked around with us a bit. One Kazach spoke English. Total just 45 minutes. Monday around lunchtime, surprisingly quiet.

Kazakhstan -> Russia. Perhaps 2 hours total at lunchtime. No problems. Russian side was very unfriendly and had 0 patience for my poor Russian. As long as you have patience for their poor attitude it is fine!

Russian passport control asked for something and handing them a copy of my visa invitation satisfied them, so you might need that.

KAZ was quick. Waited 2 hours on Russian border. All officers were correct, nothing to pay. Need your entry certificate for Eurasian Economic Union for your car. For us was from Kyrgyzstan.
