We stayed here. We asked the guard and he said it was no problem for us to sleep in our van. The truckers bathrooms were closed, but the restaurant also has hostel rooms. We asked to use the showers and when we asked how much it was, they said, whatever we wanted to contribute. All clean and good. recommended.

Stayed one night no issue. Road was busier than expected but didn't bother us. There is also a train that passes 1.5 mile away that you can clearly hear the horn of.

Wayside is "closed" this time of year, no winter plowing and the portable toilet is removed.

This is also a rural residential area with about 5 houses within a quarter of a mile. Two directly across the street and on behind the Wayside. It might not be your thing to stay infront of people's houses but if you do be sure to be respectful.

Mitas tire importer and motorcycle dealer (Chinese brands).
While I was not lucky with the tires, (my size Mitas E07+ were sold out, delivery can take 4 weeks, so plan ahead), I instantly felt that the head mechanic, Ali, really knows what he is doing. He solved an electrical issue with an aftermarket socket, and found a temporary solution for a drive shaft bellows, where BMW had no parts available.

mosque parking lot. we first tried the visitor center parking but they didnt let us park there because they have cameras there. not the quitest place but better then the street and also darker. there are toilets in the mosque. the ground is not asphalt - it's dirt - so potentially you could build a tent there..

Campsite and tented camp under trees. Has a nice bar and pool . All buildings are made of wood and canvas. Campsites are a bit narrow so turn a car takes time.
Tap water is salty and not drinkable.

A very nice roadside rest and picnic area on the Westbound side of Highway 96.
There are picnic tables, grills, and dumpsters.
Plenty of room for multiple vehicles, very flat parallel parking .
A perfect overnight or during the day spot for any size vehicle. * larger rigs may have trouble parking if there are multiple vehicles already here.

We came in late, many cars pulled off in front or behind us, peooke walked out into the woods or others' cars. Looked like either traffic or gay meeting place. We left.

A wonderful 14-day camping area on the westbound side of Highway 50 adjacent to the big pull off labled " Canon City 8 miles " on Google maps.
Before you turn into this campsite, i would suggest that you park at the pull off on the Eastbound side, lock your vehicle, and walk across the highway to check the condition of the road.
Right after the big wash that goes under the highway, you will see a gate that says .. please close gate. This is BLM land, and you can camp there for 14 days 100% free.
I only suggest walking first so you can plan your approach. The road is very short but a bit unlevel. I made it with no problems in my very low clearance, 2wd van, but there was some stay to the left go to the right maneuvering to avoid a large rock .. that I actually cleared with ease.
Zooming in on Google Maps, you will see vehicles parked there. I verified that it is infact BLM land, and you can camp there by calling the blm in that region.
29 months on the road searching this beautiful country for free campsites, overnights, and things to do. The pull off area labeled 8 miles is a great free overnight, and this gated area is a great free campsite. Safe travels, and don't forget to close the gate.
* I said this place is big rig friendly. I would have taken my 30-foot motorhome in here, but if you have a larger rig or pull behind, you may want to walk over first and make sure you can get in the gate.

Our escort started from a different location, just follow the main road. Arrived there at 8:30 in the morning, they took our passports and said we have to wait 30 minutes, inshallah.

Very large space- view/walking to bay - 3 horse trailers when I arrived. They left and it’s just my van and another car here overnight. No signs no harassments and no knocks. Highly recommend it as always leave the place cleaner then when you arrived! Thank you!

Quite spacious parking with lots of big trees for shade. Located next to a park with a Starbucks that has free open WiFi. Also toilets, shaded picnic tables and drinking water dispenser next to the Starbucks in the park.

Minimal noise from the surrounding roads but it is right next to a mosque.

We parked the car next to the toilet building. electricity from the next room. There are standing toilets and an open shower (no door, only cold water with a bucket). Everything is very outdated. You can only pay cash ($10pp). You can have dinner by the fire inside. Catfish TZS 18.000 p kg. (only choice you have) It's OK, but not special. Friendly staff. It's not your money worth. Cruiser is too heavy for the wooden bridge. You can only use a terrible 4x4 road next to the shops.

This rest area exceeded my expectations on this loney road. The bathrooms were clean, stocked, heated, and had hot water. It is also well lit.
