We arrived at 1400 and the lady here asked for 500 pesos for 2 nights. Told us to come back at 1600 when another lady with more information would be here. When we came back they asked for $200 pesos a night. We tried for 100 pesos but they wouldn't do 100 so we settled at 150mxn per night. Apparently the town is voting in 10 days on if this family will continue running the Balenario or if Paul will take over. So I think they are trying to get everything out of it while they can.

Beautiful campsite right next to the Roberto Barrios waterfalls. We paid 40MP/pp. Huge grassy area, not that many level spots. Basic but clean toilets. They have a small tienda that sells sodas and snacks. The waterfalls and natural pools where amazing. The workers serve as guides too, they will show you the best spots to swim or jump to the water. No telcel reception. Worth the detour. The coordinates for the gravel road: 17.331500,-91.917970

Several spots all with asado grills and a nice playground for kids. We came here on a Wednesday and were alone until 7:30pm when 3 cars showed up blasting music and having a bbq. luckily they left by 10:30pm but of course they left all of their garbage just like the crowds from the weekend before. The place is littered with bottles and cans. If you need a place to stay during the week this is an ok option but on the weekend it is probably out of control.

250 pesos for 2 persons in a RV without electricity, 350 with, and 80 pesos per extra person. So we paid 510 pesos for a family of 4 (children paid as adults ).
So It's expensive but nice swimming pool , easy walk to the ruins , good wifi at the restaurant which is good.
No more grass because of a rainy season.

Martin the german owner takes care himself about every details. So you even find firewood and matches, coffee and sugar, etc. You can see it every where. Super friendly staff. Laundry 15 bol/kilo. Excellent restaurant on site. Secure parking.

Parked in front and slept in the van, booked the sand dune tour through the driver (saved 10S) who is affiliated with the hotel so legit.
After the tour used the facilities (bar, pool shower, wifi) look like you are a guest. Nice place.

Coming from the south, be on the lookout for a twospoor 4x4 track leading down from the road on the left. It's right before the bridge!

The road is an easy drive with 4x4s with some clearance, and a lot of fun on motorcycles.

There are plenty of potential camp sites along the road from the very beginning. No houses or people around.

We followed the tracks for about 3km in, and then we did another 500 meter north towards the river, and then pitched our tents.

Nice and quiet camping. It's also only 15 minutes away from The Buffalo Camp where they have a restaurant and a kiosk if you don't want to cook.

During the rainy season the river is hard to pass. It widens out to roughly 30-40m and varies randomly from knee to waist deep. It's loose soft sand underneath.

The river flows slowly, so if you have a snorkel on your truck and have good experience with river crossing it can be done - with extreme caution.

Too deep for our motorcycles when trying to pass during rainy season. Had to turn back around.

This river is on route 428. Note that the road is not traveled often and that the road becomes a two spoor. The small part we did was a lot of fun!

Indeed very beautiful camping with lovely owner familiy. But it got even more expensive. We paid 230arg pp for one night (coming from the ioverlander app). And for using the washing mashine once we had to pay 300arg. The same price as we paid for more than double the clothes on a professional laundry. So very overpriced washing service. Wifi everywhere on the camping but it was very slow.

Comfortable rooms, dinner with the missionaries. Nice place to stop between Ilha da Mocambique and Quelimane, particularly if you get caught in the rain! 2000MTS for a double room with bathroom, 600 MTS for dinner and breakfast.

We stayed on the other side of the road (going south : right hand), after the open fences : more hidden, better view, good shelter with the trees. The ground is less flat to set up the tent, but still fine.
Next morning Gonzales, owner of this land, come talking a while, very nice guy !

There is hardly a place to put your tent, between Rivadavia and Garayalde. I found a small spot for one or two tents. Close to the RN3 but fully out of sight-seeing. A bit noisy because of the traffic. The spot is on the east side of the road, behind a small dune/hill.

Next to the road, but hardly any car, quiet and peaceful at night and on a comfortable altitude. They are working on the road further down and the entire dirt road is in good condition.

Great side of the road camping. Nice big grassy area and a couple of pools. The place is really a restaurant that caters mostly to truckers. We paid 200 pesos for our 33’ rig w 5 people and two dogs. The road wasn’t that busy and we woke to miniature horses next to our bus. No water no electrical.

This is what the name says: a recreation area for the day. There is a little sandy beach with nice views over the lake and the mountains. Overnight stay is forbidden! Big advance for a cappuccino break is , that this place is not directly at the RN40 as most of the other spots in this region.
We reopened that place, but unfortunately couldn’t change the category to „tourist attraction “.

The sign says that it is a new campsite, and it looked newish.
The caretaker asked R200 pp!! But that was absolutely crazy. But you have to be friendly and polite in Mozambique. So we sugested 1000 Mt. He agreed.
The campsite is a plot of grass where you can pick a spot. The ablusion is oké, but only 2 toilets and 2 showers. So when busy in high season you have to queue. There are places with shadow.
There are also some wooden cabins you can rent.
Just before the beach there are two benches where you can sit and enjoy the sea view. It is 50 m to the beach.
There is a small place where you can clean your dishes. Here you can also plug in your devices.
No bar, no restaurant, but you can go to the neighbours through a small porch. No security and the caretaker leaves at 17.00 and locked the gate. So you cannot out thru the gate and have to use the neighbours exit/entry. Strange!!
Overall, to much for to little. It just has no atmosphere. Not recommending this place.

Flat parking lot where you can camp and base yourself for the the Valle Lacteo hike. Not wind protected. This is the trail head to the Valle Lacteo, Refugio Kris & Doug Tompkins (San Lorenzo) and Laguna Los Tempanos next to the San Lorenzo mountain and its impressive glacier. You can either camp here or hike 0.8 km down the road/trail to the Refugio Gilberto. The hike to Refugio San Lorenzo is 11 km (3-4 hours) each way. From the San Lorenzo refugio you can hike ~4km (1 hour) each way to Laguna Los Tempanos which involves a river crossing.

This is the real reward of the hike! If you’re luck with the weather you’ll enjoy of epic views of Mountain San Lorenzo and Laguna Los Tempanos which has several icebergs in it. It’s about 4km hike each way from the Refugio Kris & Doug Tompkins (a.k.a. San Lorenzo). There’s a very cold river crossing involved.

Good option for a day to rest after a long driving day. We paid 120 pp without a boleta. Apparently it’s 140 pp but the owner himself offered us a discount without us asking.

* It’s advisable to fill up gas and restock at the grocery store in this town.

when entering Bolivia the police officer who needs to stamp the TIP said we would need to get seguro as police more inland don't know about the rule that you don't need one if you are in the country for less than 30 days.
so we went back to adana and took a picture of the rules. might come in handy.
police officer also asked for a tip to put the stamp on the paper. didn't get one
