We slept in our van on the street during Carnaval for 5 days - paid 10,000pp per day to use hostel facilities. On the street there are buses going past and it isn’t super quiet, but it feels safe. Apparently there’s a guy who guards the block overnight (we never saw him) and someone on hostel reception. Hostel has a nice back courtyard with a huge mango tree, hammocks and BBQ. Staff are some of the nicest we’ve come across, super chilled and accommodating. Wifi reached our van on other side of the street (can’t park right in front because of pizza restaurant). Definitely grab a pizza while there - they’re so good that we didn’t really bother eating anywhere else.

Little restaurant with amazing food and awesome coffee. Prices are ok, 8$ for a big meal. Owner was very friendly. Best food we had in Costa Rica so far. You can also camp in the backyard. 10$ pp/night only space for 4 rigs. no big rigs.
Hot shower, kitchen, laundry machine and rooms as well.

This is not the towing service but the mechanic the towing left us with. But we also used the service for 70 km. It is nice guy but he knows his price. However he was very fast and the mechanic fixed the problem in less than hour on a friday at 8 PM. I the fuelpump on our VW vanagon with injection that broken in the hose connection on the bumby ruta 40. He had a similar in hos workshop for a peugoet 205. All in all we were back on the road on less than 6 hours from the breakdown. Do we feel lucky? YES. The mechanic is Joaquim (phone 2684597090) He was very good and fair.

I am a van traveler and surfer. Who drove from Chile to California for almost 2 years. Many people were amazing with as. If now I am a safe stop to spend the night parking on my property. It is a little and new house, that I build after my trip. So there are not many amenities but Totoralillo is beautiful beach and perfect to surf and boulder climb.

Great place to camp in the rain as the sites are under shelter! Hot showers, surprisingly quick internet. Downsides are that it's noisy (bring earplugs) and there are very few power points.

We came to one road block first, truck halfway into road, they demanded nothing and told us we can pass but we have to move cones ourselves. 100 meters further up the road are lots of people blocking road. 3 militant men are sitting on a tribune and receive the 100pesos demanded of us. We are let through. Another 200 meters the road are blocked by people , politely asking for small donation, we gave 10-15 pesos. There were 50 cars parked along road and it felt intimidating but no problems occurred.

Follow Calle hacia Barra de Santiago to end. 4x4 needed as you will be wild camping on beach. Sand isn’t too soft. No issues with Toyota pickup 4x4. Plenty of wood on beach for fire. Locals said it was more than fine to camp here. Beautiful, clean and desolate. No mosquitos.

There is a not overnight parking sign but the Walmart Management and the city of Mesquite are very flexible and you can park here the overnight. Many truckers, RVs, Vans are staying here and shopping at Walmart. I will recommend you to park where the white lines are because far away from the entrance and we will not disturb the customers with small vehicles and shopping carts. Please do not leave your trash away and please dump it in the proper areas... they have a lots of trash cans but some people just don't care and leave their trash everywhere sometimes. Tip: If you park your rv close to the auto center parking area, you will have the chance to use the Walmart WiFi.

Great location on Mesquite Blvd. Quiet and very safe RV Park. Full hookup, cable, water, bathrooms with showers, laundry ($1 washer and $1 dryer), pet friendly (not deposit) and friendly staff. We paid $20 plus tax per night and maximum 14 days. They are patrolling several times per day and during the night. It's seeing very safe. Not restrictions about the age of your rv.

The school building is very nice and their project of free humanitarian education is well worth our support. It's a good place to stay near Castro. But the wifi is slow and hot water not very likely (it seems like it's a problem with the water supply in all of Chiloe - other campgrounds were in the same situation)

A lay-by made of gravel. Nothing special, but solid ground beside the road is hard to find in this region. Tranquil.

Looks like entry is 7 $ per person (what we pay) , and you sleep there free.
If you want to do some hike you have 2 possibility. A short 45 minutes hike with nice view of volcano sant Ana and lake Catepeque. you have to do it with a guide that have the key to open a gate on the trail. The second is a longer hike down from parking lot to a saddle then up to the edge of the volcano from where you can see the little lake in the center. Then down again and back up on the road to the parking lot. Leaving 11.30 back around 3.30 You will have also,to pay extra 7$ when you hike up to the volcano for a “protected area fee”. Finally you should give something to the guide 1$ suggested.

El Salvador crossing from Guatemala la hachadura

Guatemala border took 1 hour, everybody are very efficient and kind
At the immigration they give you a little piece of paper stamped that you have to keep and give to the officer at Salvador border
As we are coming back through the Salvador we asked for a temporary suspension of our Guatemala TIP (salida temporal vehiculo)and it was easy to get, you need the same documents as if you were cancelling your permit.

All other steps given by travelamateurs.com are perfect

El Salvador
The line of truck was very long and we couldn’t pass the because we couldn’t squeeze between the line of trucks entering and the one exiting. The ditch wasn’t large enough for us to pass the trucks on the right side. A truck driver told us to pass in the ditch of the opposite lane on the side of the trucks entering Guatemala. Police wasn’t happy but we said tourist sorry and they smiled and let us through.
Border crossing easy and efficient.
All steps given by travelamateurs.com are perfect
But they requested a 150% enlarged copy of your driving licence
And you need to have exact directions of where are you going to stay in El Salvador.
Important note if you want renter El Salvador,
When you exit El Salvador you cannot have a temporary suspension of TIP. You need to wait 6 months in order to re-enter but You can get a permit for 24hour transit or otherwise drive to Guatemala through Honduras.

If photocopy office is close on the side of custom building you have to go outside there are 2 shop one near dose not do enlargements...

This is Frutillar's municipal campground, nicely situated right at the lake. The place has direct beach access and will get crowded on a sunny weekend. We came here on a cold Friday in February with overcast sky and there were at first only 10 other cars. It kept getting fuller until 10 pm.

You can either get an individual site with your own bench, grill, electricity for 25k pesos or park at the end near the beach and bathroom which is cheaper ~12k pesos. Bathrooms are rather clean, hot water until 12 pm. Would have great views of the 🌋 on a clear day.

We stopped here to stay for the night, would have been 15.000 pesos for a camper and a family of four. The place looks nice as described and Jorge was really friendly. We would have been the only ones for the night. Unfortunately there was no bathroom so we drove on.
