For cyclists: this road was totally rideable for us in July. A guy at the turn off told us we couldn't ride it, that it was too steep and that we would get robbed. We chose to ignore this as he was trying to charge 5000 each to go 10km up the hill. It is steep and rocky, and at times we pushed, but only maybe a hundred metres at a time. The hair pins take some of the steepness out of it and there are paved and flatter sections. Views are amazing and we only met friendly locals, no bandits wanting to rob us (although i think there have been isolated incidents of robbery of hikers).

Great little cafe in the centre square. Good for people watching, also found a fair few people watching us - feels like they don’t get a huge amount of travellers. Not loads to do in this town. Just grab a coffee & enjoy.

Close to the BR-230, but invisible, on a flat space, outside private property. Traffic noise audible, but a quiet one nighter nonetheless (in an area without any spots on iOverlander).

4x4 advisable but not necessary, would definitely be needed after rain. Nice spots in the middle of the woods. 16 day limit. Pretty muddy though

We camped here, nice views indeed. Camping is 500 ksh pp, we could pay with 10 usd which was nice since we don’t have shilling yet.

Quiet but very windy. The watchman knows the best spot to stay out of the wind, so just ask him.

We were told the gate closes around 5 and you have to be inside by then.

Sometimes you can change USD to KES here with ‘Hasan’, he seems to be the local loan guy situated at a table next to the fuel station. He was unfortunately not changing money when we were there, ‘because he had no plans to go to Nairobi’.

Sign at entry says no camping but if you continue and turn right it has a sign to camp only in designated areas. First 20m drive is pretty washed out/ big holey and same with the last 50m but just take it easy and you’ll get through fine. (Could do it in our 22ft). Plenty of others around. We just stuck to the main open area but I assume if you drive up further there’s some nice secluded areas. Perfect for a night with beautiful stars!

Small dust area partly hidden from the road, with nice views over the canyon. Unfortunately A LOT of garbage. Good for one quiet night if you want to sleep out of Chivay.
Cars passing can see you a little but noise is not loud. Entrance only coming from Chivay, no 4x4 needed

View-wise one of the best spots on the island. Many locals stroll along the beach. However, the road is very noisy the whole day and night. There were about 15 other vans and RVs parked along the beach for the night. Toilets close at 8pm.

Very nice place right beside a field, noone around, quiet at night. You are hidden from the road by a lot of trees. Possible for every vehicle. Not perfectly flat but ok. You could even go further the road and see if there is a better place. We stayed one night.

A sometimes very rough 4x4 track connects Geghard with Gavar (Sevan lake). It offers scenic views on Ararat and lake Sevan. A small detour to the north enables you to climb the photogenic summit of Mount Azhdahak (3560m). No matter which side you start, the road ascends steeply to an elevation of 2700-2800 m. Then you come on to a wide and smooth grass landscape (including a pass reaching 3300m). The road is closed in winter, so ask locals if it’s possible or not. You can download the gpx file we used on our website collectingstones.be.

We camped somewhere along the way, but actually a lot of places would suit for camping. We chose a spot a little out of the wind. Expect cold nights (2 degrees).

Everything as in the descriptions below.
After checking out several other options in the area this place was the best for us.
Right beside the ocean, close to shops and Restaurants and an absolute relaxed vibe. Chill in the hammocks or jump in the pool, it’s clean and refreshing and the lookout platforms facing the sea are a perfect way to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the Surfers. Surfspot right in front. Still $15 without electricity and $20 with.
Really liked the place...wanted to stay 1 day ended up staying a week - despite the rustic bathrooms. But it’s a real nice and well kept place.
Level space for 2 vans or small/medium RV‘s.

Had a look at it, great place but after all the rain the road in was very soft, almost didn’t get out, would be no problem if it was dry. Would recommend walking in first to see what the road was like, only about 200 meters

Open forested area right off the road, good coverage with surrounding trees to hide vehicles. The ground is a little soft in places but fine for 2wd. Good for vans. Close to the road so there is some rod noise. Entrance is off of park st.
