THE most remote camping I’ve ever done in any state park. Checked in at the Barton Warnock Visitor Center at the southeast side of the park. Absolutely gorgeous 45 mile drive on paved road along the Rio Grand and surrounding mountains. Left the paved road for 27 miles of gravel. Total drive took 4 hours from checkin to the campsite. Drive was made more rough because I forgot air down my tires until 10 miles in. Road was maintained but rough with dried rutted mud in several areas from recent flash flooding. Was able to drive right up to the small shelter with a picnic table, fire ring and bear proof food storage. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Must do again!
