Description

A national Seashore campground on the beach of the Outer Banks. Open field for the most part. Usually quite windy but if the wind dies down the mosquitoes come out! There is WiFi but only at the check in area.

Latest Check-Ins

Since there a no places to boondock on the Outer Banks, we stayed the night here. It was very windy and chilly but did the trick.

Report Check-In

it's a peaceful place close to the beach. You can drive your car onto the sandy beach, but be careful not to get stuck! I've seen it happen to couple SUVs for just two days.

Report Check-In

As described. Be aware, you can only pay with credit card online - there is no pay at site, even if you choose your site right there the ranger does not take cash and tells you how to pay through the website. with an added fee of course. quite stupid system in my opinion.

very nice campground on a beautiful location, amazing beach right behind it. it's National Park Service camping, so minimal amenities, but that's ok, come prepared or go to a RV park, if you need all the bells and whistles :-) can only recommend.

Location, location, for Outer Banks if you like the beach and fishing. Agree with previous post no dump station, no communal drinkable water, no dishwater dump (I'm pulling up to a water site to fill). No amenities nearby. Showers are just cold beach showers. For 28 bucks, it's a parking lot with restrooms. Meh.

Report Check-In

Good views, beach nearby. Some spots have electric +water, and others are dry for a discount. While the spots are reasonably far from each other, the road is one way and very narrow, making an angled backin for a large rig difficult. Showers only available in the summer. Reservations only.

We stayed 2 nights and that was about as much as we could handle. The winds were so intense you couldn't leave anything out or it would blow away. Although we car camp in our car we had pity on those that chose to tent. They spent a better part of their time securing and resecuring their lines. Outdoor cooking was impossible due to the high winds. We managed but barely. The washrooms (restrooms) were clean and well maintained but there's no showers this time of year.

If you don't have a sink at your disposal I'm not sure where they expect you to dump your grey water. You could drive it over to the dump station across the road but thats not practical for tent campers.

The real value in this campground is the close proximity to the beach, but in the off season it's just not worth it unless you have a big rig that has everything you need built in.

You're better off boondocking at the Northern Welcome Center. Don't think about doing that at the southern one as they clearly state No Overnight Parking

off season vist open year round. shower closed be prepared for wind. good place over all

Report Check-In

Stayed in the off season in our van for two nights, site B2. It was a nice site that was somewhat tucked away in the dunes. I can imagine that this place gets crazy busy and jampacked in the summertime. It was nice in the off-season though. The bathrooms were nice but unfortunately the showers were off when we were here. FYI there is potable water at the dump station across the road from the campsite.

Level, clean and convenient camping on Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Report Check-In

This was a really neat place to stay at. The road and sites seem a little tight but it all works. On the attached map you can see that some sites have electric & water and rest are dry camping. The dump station and water fill-up is across the street at the marina. The wind is heavy at times but it keeps the bugs away.

Very nice campground. Bathrooms are clean and well kept. Shower are open air outdoor style and a bit challenging.
Away from but still close to town. Great fishing opportunity in the area.
Definitely will stay here again when in area.

Report Check-In

Great campground next to the beach and fishing charters. Definitely recommend.

Couple of loops for RV and tents. Flat and open, right on the sea. Pulled in late at night and checked in in the morning. Stone's throw from Bodie Light. WI-FI 4.6 Mbps download and 2.4 upload.

Only campground in the area we could find open before April 1. Clean, cold water bathrooms were available. No showers. Good AT&T 4g. The beach was delightfully deserted.

Pretty nice place, ended up staying 2 nights. It was almost completely full when I was here so book ahead of time if you can. You can only do reservations online and when I had issues with it they basically told me “too bad” and I had to wait for it to process because they can’t do the reservation themselves here. Bathrooms were clean and showers were primitive. Stayed in B18 the first night and that has a trail that takes you on a 5 minute walk to the beach. People do have to cut through your site to reach it so be aware of that. Would stay here again.

The no electrical sites are all but empty off season. We had our pick away from big fifth wheel trailers. Nobody near us. Parked next to the dunes. Pleasant 50 meters hike over them to the empty beach. Some camping and driving on beach. I nice find. Part of the National park system, so discount rate for those with access pass (vets, seniors,...) made reservations online and paid after we discovered this place. So few people here, not sure they would have noticed.

A nice little beach campground. There’s no trees and little privacy but that didn’t bother us. We stayed at this campground due to its close proximity to the ocean. We stayed at site C5 and had a short 5 minute walk across the dunes to the ocean. Our site didn’t have electric or water but we noticed sites in the C loop that did have water and electric. There’s some road noise from route 12 during the day but in the evening the road quiets down. We would stay here again!

Report Check-In

Very nice clean campground nestled in the dunes. We got lucky with one night free and another paid. There are no fires here due to the wind and area. Great spot for a few nights!

Report Check-In

Nice state park, we book a dry spot but the fresh water and dump were close by, at the Fisherman Inlet, across the street. Generator time stops at 10 PM and we had one steamy night with no wind and one family next door with an infant, and had to keep theirs on, so was not only hot and super uncomfortable but noisy. But that was one night and the rest was serene. Make sure you pack and apply lots of bugs spray. From the same dune you can admire the sunset and the sunrise, both in and from the water. Spectacular views

Hello
Nice place to park your motorhome for the night if you want to stay on this island.
We pay 28$ for a dry place.
Beach is to 5mn walk.
There is only fisherman with 4X4, so I'm not sure rhis is a good place for surf or bodyboard.
Clean restroom.
Quiet night.
