Free camping next to Grand Canyon National Park! This is not in the GC park. Make sure you drive till you see the Kaibab National Park sign. Road is a bit bumpy on the way in for the visitor center (64). Tons of spots and excellent service.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
I chose a spot in the open field area facing west. Sunset through the trees was gorgeous! Very bumpy coming in, I drove a 24’ class C for about a mile very slow over many bumps but definitely doable. The farther you go in, the more you lose your cell signal. Nice breeze through the trees, campfires set up, very level. Some spots more muddy/sandy than others so be aware if it’s rainy.

bumpy road at the beginning, make sure to pass kaibab forest sign, and on your right a lot of spot
Report Check-InRoad in from the GC visitor center is bumpy then smooths out. Tons of camping spots. This is not in the national park! Make sure you drive till you see Kaibab NPS sign.
Verizon service is excellent!
Report Check-InEdit: Stayed for a week, everything still stands true.
So good!
Plenty of spots, even arriving on a Saturday evening. Perhaps there are not a lot of people camping due to the heat.
Beautiful open Ponderosa Pine forest, good shade, an occasional grazing cow meandering through.
Only June complaint, flies. Not the bite-y kind, just buzzy, in all sizes. Keep open water and food away from where you are and they’re a little better.
No fires allowed at this time, too crispy.
AMAZING sunset views from the watchtower.
Report Check-InWe stayed 3 nights across from the lookout tower and it was wonderful! Lots of others as it was a weekend, but we were able to find a spot and park in a way that felt more secluded. Pretty quiet during the day and at night. 4 miles from the NP’s grandview point and trailhead. We had our GPS set to “avoid tolls” so it took us on a rough gravel forest road instead of through the park. If you have a pass or are willing to pay for the park, definitely go in the south or east entrance and take 64 to get here! We found lots of animal bones and some more fresh body parts at a neighboring campsite, but we thought it was cool. Some people might not like that! Pit toilets by the tower, good Verizon service, great coverage on super sunny days!
Report Check-InWorked out great! Wide open and no one here in the winter. No problem for this STO BEAST otherwise the snow can be tough.
Report Check-InFree camping next to Grand Canyon National Park! This particular location is great. I'll look out on this particular site as we found a deer head laying next to our fire pit. It is very scary when you decide to look for fire wood.
