Description

This park in the Amboseli ecosystem is locally run by the Maasai people and borders Amboseli park in Kenya.

It’s a nice and very dusty park to drive around. We saw quite a lot of wildlife - elephants, and the usual animals - no big cats. Most of the sightings are found right on the Kenyan border, be careful and don’t cross the border! Roads are decent. No other tourists. You’ll pass several Masai villages, boma’s and watertaps. And there are great views on Kili, Meru and Longido.

This gpspoint is the entrance gate Elerai and you pay the fees here:
10 usd pp entrance fee
10 usd for a foreign car up to 2000kg (every 1000 kg is another 10 usd)
20 usd pp for camping
+ 18% vat!

Usually people visit with a pre-arranged permit, but the rangers said it was no problem we didn’t have one.

Latest Check-Ins

We visited and stayed the night. Really recommend if you are in the area as spectacular scenery with views to Kilamanjaro, Meru and Longonot. Saw plenty of wildlife including gerenuk, gazelles, elephant, lesser kudu, lots of zebra and ?maasai? giraffe. We asked the gate about the fees and I believe it is as follows

Day visit:
Entry - $10pp
Conservation fee - $15pp
Foreign car - $10
+18% VAT

Overnight:
Entry - $10pppn (rolls over to next day but won’t cover for a second night)
Camping - $20pppn
Foreign Car - $10 per night (we think)
+ 18% VAT
Note, no conservation fee for overnighters

Recommend staying the night - the public campsite is really nice, and you can leave the area any time the next day (just double check that at the gate)

The staff at the gate and in the park were so nice and bent over backwards to explain stuff to us + make us feel welcome.

Gave us a good map of the area with interesting write-ups. However we struggled to follow some of the roads as tracks all over the place. But all part of the fun and adventure. Note that the body of water on the map they give you is Siya pools (old mine) but maps.me shows a body of water that is NOT Siya pools. It took us a while to understand that, and did not help our navigation efforts :)

Came here for a day trip and paid the fees by card at the gate. 59 USD for 2 people and 11,000 Tsh for a TZ registered vehicle.

Lots of gazelles and antelopes but mostly Masai with livestock. Saw some elephants. It’s very scenic.

The Masai kids were really pesky here. They will storm your car at a sighting or during your lunch break. When I didn’t stop the car they threw a stone at the car which dented the back door. Really annoying and I reported it at the gate when exiting.

It’s a nice area nonetheless.
