military stopped us. asked to look in the van, just stood outside and peered in for a minute. Separate immigration guy, quick check of passports. Military and Police then whispered that they wanted something and they want to make our process quick... even though they jade done their checks. Said no, they didn't ask again and off we went to the toll. 50mets

Lots of young men with guns, it’s a military run checkpoint so I suppose that makes sense. They checked my passport, looked through the back of my car, then asked for a cold drink. It took maybe 5 minutes, but they were not particularly friendly. The main guy spoke English, that was helpful.

Lots of construction on the new bridge right now too! So lots of trucks and activity everywhere.

Report Check-In

Passed this place without any issues. Only had to answer some questions but did not have to show any documents or the inside of the car. Paid 50 mts toll to cross bridge.

200m toll for the bridge with a 10t truck. Be nice to the military guys and don’t pay bribes. Just say no thanks.

Report Check-In

Paid the 50 Met for the new bridge and then military check point. First police officer checks passport and visa, asks for next accommodation.
Military then wants us to open the car, we open the back of the pick-up but refuse to show the inside of the fridge. We give him in the end one coke we had in the front.

Bridge toll 50M for the vehicle. Police said they need to inspect everything in the camper and he wants to "help" me to pass it faster. I just started unloading a few items in front of him. He immediately said he doesn't want to see anything. I said thanks and drove on.
I heard from another traveler though that at some point their pushy asking got to a point where they pulled out the guns, and a while later some police/military got arrested here for corruption.
Hard to take the officials seriously if they all act like beggars...

Report Check-In

50Mt toll to cross the bridge. Separate police and military checkpoint where they checked our passports. They asked what we had brought for them, but I smiled and said ‘sorry nothing’. They were a bit more pushy than most roadblocks, but keep smiling, and keep saying no and they’ll give up and let you through. Nothing to worry about.

Report Check-In

Bridge is being redone/rebuilt. Passage closed after 9pm due to construction, so you cannot cross. 50 Mets in toll both on the south side for vehicle less than 3.5 tonne.
military/police/immigration stop just after the toll booth, group of 6 approached and asked for 100 mets each so they can buy something. We said no, they kept asking and we stayed firm and polite saying no you cant have any money. They soon realised they weren't getting anything out of us so we left.

Report Check-In

price is now 50met for light vehicles (class 1)
200mts for more than 3.5t

Report Check-In

There were just a basic military & traffic police stop before the bridge and military also after the bridge when we passed through, don’t pay anything to them, just smile and be courteous. There’s a separate toll booth before the bridge and the tariff is mentioned there (maybe 50 mets if I remember right). New huge bridge on construction, so getting through the old bridge takes a lot of time if there are trucks.

Report Check-In

Toll is also MNM25 travelling south now.

Report Check-In

We were driving north, they told us we had to pay a toll to cross the bridge, 25 Metical. They had a document (see photo) with the prices and everything. We thought it was dodgy so we tried to argue for some time, we speak Spanish so could comunícate ok with them, in the end we paid and decided it was legit. On the paper they gave us it said you only pay driving north, but from March you start paying the same driving south. No other problems, guy on the other side asked for a soft drink. Cheap, but we hate corruption, so really tried hard to make sure it was real

Report Check-In

Stopped on south side had to pay mt25 for the bridge. No questions asked. On the north side we were stopped and asked to open the back of the camper. They were just bored and wanted to have a look, they didn’t ask for anything.

Report Check-In

Theres a toll here now. Class 1 vehicles hv to pay 25 Met. Receipt was given. I'm on motorbike so my box & panniers were not checked.

Report Check-In

Stopped briefly on both sides of the bridge. On the vilanculos side there is a boom gate with an army presence where they asked what was in the car but a response of clothes and camping equipment resulted in no further Enquiry. Both sides were pleasant enough and asked for food which we didn’t give them. No one was aggressive or asked for money. All fine as long as you are firm and keep smiling
