Description

*Overnight camping/parking is NOT available at this location.
.....
LUMO Wildlife Sanctuary / Lions Bluff. LUMO Wildlife Conservancy is a community-run reserve, attached to both Tsavo West and Taita Hills. Entry to the conservancy is $35 pp + $3 for the vehicle (in high season). Stunning scenery and wildlife selection and absolutely lovely staff both rangers and at Lions Bluff Lodge inside the conservancy.

Lions Bluff offers camping, with basic ablutions (long drop/ cold shower) and absolutely wonderful views over the plains and Kilimanjaro- truly a special spot! Lots of lions about; heard them from the campsite in the evening and saw them multiple times.

Lodge also has a selection of rooms available and a fantastic bar/restaurant. A meal (buffet style) was 1500 KSH. For a slightly cheaper option to the National Parks, this is a must-visit.

For more details/availability/prices you can call the Lodge +254 717 555 498/visit the reception after entering the conservancy.

*These coordinates are for the gate to the conservancy; the lodge is about 8km up the road (well sign posted).

Latest Check-Ins

Just called to ask about camping. Camping no longer available as there is construction in the area where the campsite is located. Reservations said they would not be offering camping once construction had finished.

Report Check-In

Camping fee is 3,000 KSh pP now in the high season. In addition to that you’ll have to pay the following conservancy fees:

LUMO CONSERVANCY FEES – paid for at the gate in correct cash or Mpesa. Children 5 – 17 years pay 50%.
USD 37 per non-resident adult per day
KES 1,000 per resident adult per day
KES 300 per citizen adult per day

VEHICLE ENTRANCE FEES
Up to 5 seats – KES 530 per day
6 – 12 seats – KES 750 per day
Over 12 seats – KES 1,500 per day

For Kenya the prices seem very reasonable and you can get great food at the main lodge we enjoyed the stay here and will certainly be back.

We got charged $35 pp for entrance, $8 vehicle fee and $34 for community fee. The total for 2 people was $112.
It was late so we decided to swollow this expensive camping just to get to the campsite and had to pay $30pp exstra for the camping.
We also felt misinformed by the lady at the gate who said there was ablutions, WiFi and electricity at our camp and also informed us that this was the sum total of the fees we had to pay.
She saw that we are in a big rig and that that campsites are about 500m away from the general campsite. So we were literally in the bush. This place left a bitter taste in our mouths and will never see is again!

This is an amazing conservancy and now the rains have come the wildlife is back with a vengeance. We saw many lion, big males, groups of lionesses and a mama with cubs, huge herds of Buffalo, elephant, fabulous birds, buck, ostrich and more. The conservancy is small enough to negotiate easily and Salt Lik lodge serves great coffee with a superb waterhole which was literally teeming with Buffalo. The campsite is basic and as previously mentioned 2000ksh pppn so pricey but the ablutions are fine, there is a good viewing shelter with big fireplace and the staff are very helpful. The pitches are small and fairly tricky to park in but the view is worth it and you are in the middle of the Bush listening to lions roar at night. We stayed 2 nights

Report Check-In

Very friendly staff and beautiful view over the conservancy. Unfortunately when we were here, it was extremely dry and we saw hundreds of dead animals.
The campsites are small and not leveled (two of them a little bit). The way to get to the sites is rocky and extremely steep so it’s a challenge that your car is not in a inclined position.
There is a shade for the guest with nice view and a fire in the evening. Ablution with flush toilet and hot shower. We paid 2000 ksh pppn - from my point of view to much for this place.

This place is a must! We have been here many times prior to new ownership and renovations. Facilities are fantastic and beyond your normal camp site. The upgrade has hot showers and flushing toilet. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
We saw plenty of game, lions, cubs etc.
The pricing is at the upper end for overland campers but a very small price for what you get. ENJOY.

I've changed the pin to it's real location and it's real name. Prices for camping as of July 2022: 2000 Kes ppn + conservancy fees (37 usd pp) + car fees. This is an extremely beautiful campsite and conservation area. Saw loads of wildlife in just one afternoon ( lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, and loads of antelopes). The view from Cheetah Campsite is stunning, with sunset over Kilimanjaro and facilities are excellent! Hot showers, place for dishwashing, flush toilets, lounge area. Great internet signal with Safaricom.

We changed our travel plans and added a one night stopover at Cheetah Campsite. We ended staying for two nights at this special and developing conservancy. The staff are truly out to care for you and make your stay special and memorable. We stayed in our roof top tent, but enjoyed other facilities. We were permitted to look round the work to revitalise Lions Bluff Lodge - this is going to be so special. We made use of the dining facilities at Leopard's Lair, where the food and view are exceptional. All the facilities are outstanding and there's more to be built. We experienced two game drives, one in the morning and the other, a night drive. Both were amazing. We highly recommend any of the accommodation options at Lumo Conservancy.

The lodge is closed.
They offer expensive tented accommodation now, and camping on Cheetah campsite.
The campsite is in steep and rocky terrain, with little shade.
The small sites for the tents are levelled, but no way to drive a car with a rooftop tent onto the sites.
Access road is steep, not suitable for trucks.
They have a small bar and restaurant, but very pricey.
Since there is no room to sit at the tent, they built a covered sitting area, where they will lit a camp fire at night.
Electricity all day, there are socket outlets at the sitting area!
No cash payments accepted, except for meals and drinks.
Nice view over the plain below, but void of animals.
What you will see is Masai grazing their cattle!
Disappointing.
Better to skip and drive straight to Tsavo West, e.g. to the beautiful campsite at Lake Jipe.
