Price update below.
Here you can take a guided tour into a volcano. Tours are only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday , starting at 11hoo. You have to book the tour on the previous day at the booking office in Malagüe. We paid 640+ 340 A.p. for 2 person. The tour is in Spanish. We can recommend this 2and 1/2hours tour.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Amazing place, professional tour operation that runs like clockwork. Reserve in the city one day before at Agencia Aries de Libertad on the Main Street. $8400 pp. totally recommend if you’re in this general area!!
Report Check-InYou need to book the tour first in the city of Malargue. We paid 1900 pesos per person, and we went with our own car - there is a possibility to take a transfer, but it will cost more.

Report Check-InIndeed quite a faf (nice word..) to get here and arrange the tour. Price now 1300 for adults and 1000 for kids >5yr.
Landscape is pretty interesting.
We went at the tour at 16.00, and almost no sun anymore into the canyons. Would recommend to go in the morning in this time of year.
Road is pretty bad ripio.
We camped in the parking area. Totally alone at night, baños were open, a million stars and no dust. Pretty nice camp!
Report Check-InWe booked the tour in Malargüe (ask in the tourist info) for around 650p pp and drove with our own car to Malacara the next morning (tours are twice daily now in high season). The road to the is partly a heavy ripio, but no 4x4 or high clearance needed. According to our guide there are only three volcanos worldwide like Malacara and it‘s the only one you can really enter. The lava chimney and the volcanic strutures are impressive, but to share this experience with 30 other people takes its charme. 2.5hrs are a bit long and you often have to wait for the slow hikers. For us nice, but not a must.
Report Check-InQuite a faff to get here; buy ticket at aires de libertad on main St in malargue (840 for 2) join a convoy the next day and drive out 1.5 hrs. Pay another 400 for 2 for guide. Drive to another car park. The walk to the cone then takes about 20 minutes after which you cross the hill and scramble up another canyon. However, at the end of the day it is quite interesting and a rather unique landscape and volcanic formation, even though our Spanish is fairly non existent so that part was rather wasted on us. Wouldn't bother camping on this road, seem to be a lot of trucks and very dusty.
Report Check-Inwe wanted to go to the volcano without a guide but that is not possible. there is a locked gate and a guard.
