Something not right?

Description

Just east past Glamis store, and just before the railroad tracks is a dirt road going north (left). Ranger said take the dirt road and anywhere between the right of the road and the tracks is ok to disbursed camp. There was a small section of fee area first then we went past that about 1/2 mile to a flat section with a small uphill entry. Terrain is loose and sandy and may require 4wd,. Would be a tough to impossible to drive with wet roads. Train runs pretty regularly all night so it’s not quiet but they are just running by, not rooting their horn. Strong cell signal here.

Latest Check-Ins

This is past the fee area sign. I parked closer to the 78 and before the sign — also a huge hard packed sand area. Noise from the trains and glamis is annoying, but having earplugs helps a lot.

Report Check-In

Basically just a large, flat packed dirt/sand area adjacent to the tracks, and perfect for getting a bit away from the madness/noise/light of the Glamis sand people. We pulled in late, and found the trains passing occasionally to be no problem (sleeping in a van). Basically stark desert landscape at dawn, but a good spot. Only two OHV's passed by on the road in the morning.

Report Check-In

Hard packed sand road follows the North Algodones Dunes Wilderness area. Camping is between them and alongside the train tracks.
The trains pass frequently in both directions. The sound is easy enough to ignore.
Camping site is surrounded by owl hoots welcoming the dusk and then coyote howls celebration nightfall.
