Wonderful vibes. We camped on the SouthEast side of the gravel road and it was incredibly peaceful with only a few cars driving past early in the night. Definitely marking it on my list of places to stay again. Lots of fallen branches around for a fire.

It was a really nice place to stop for a few days for free and perfectly legal for camping. The park ranger stopped to say hi, and it turned out he was into overlanding as well and tipped us off about some other free spots.

The vibe here was a lot like Baja with miriachi music playing, a fair bit of bass, and a lot of family's camping and ripping around in old cars.

if you drive up past this site, there is an entrance to the lake that you could take in a short bus pr a van, but it was a bit too tight for our 42-foot bus.

Report Check-In

Lots of spaces and easy access to the water. You just have to climb the gravel barrier on the far NW side of the camp spots. Lots of mosquitoes. Pretty clean only saw an old broken camper window and a couple of old diapers. Please please pack out what you pack in…

definitely an awesome spot that is indeed deep in the woods and nearby the lake. at this particular point there are quite a few spots to camp and there is also quite a few more along the road in. it is close enough to the interstate that you can hear the traffic noise. also I was approached by a local sheriff at around 11 am. he said he saw my van and "wanted to make contact." he was nice about the whole ordeal and I think just trying to feel me out and he left without even running my id, but ultimately I found it strange as this is national forest land and camping here is 100% permitted.

Very nice and private. Quiet night. Would 100% stay again

Staying here soon and will update with pics

just an update. This location is still good with 4-5 sites in deep woods. There are 2-3 other locations on the east side of the gravel road nearby also. It's about 3 blocks to the lake. can hear the I-90 freeway in the background but just barely.

Amazing peaceful place, couldn't make it right to the river in our 23ft RV, stopped at the site right before, about 200 yards away.
Verizon 3 bars.

Report Check-In

Great spot near the lake. About 10 degrees cooler than surrounding areas. Decent Verizon signal. Lots of shade. Some highway noise but it is more like a white noise background. Fire rings. Private spots. Great place to bring your dog. Great location.

Found a good spot to set up the tent off one off the many dirt roads just past the power lines. Only one other person here when we arrived. Seems quiet.

Report Check-In

Staying here tonight, so far very quiet, only another vehicle here at the moment. Several spots with fire pits and nice tree cover. Road is within view of sites, however not right out in the open. Quiet, occasional car driving by but nothing I care about.

Report Check-In

Many dirt roads with lots of sites in this area, a few are close to the road but a little exploration yielded a great spot with a fire ring back a little ways. The dirt roads keep going for a long time (including under the power lines as previously mentioned). Not too many bugs considering it’s the deep woods. Tree roots and pot holes make roads rough, but there are smoother options if you don’t have high clearance. Would recommend.

Nice area, lots of space here and in all kinds of pull offs around the main road. Wuite some garbage though unfortunately. Lots of pot holes on the main road but manageable.
A short walk to the lake from here BUT it’s totally worth to drive a little further north where the road is closer to the lake, there is a big pull off to the left and that way you’re right by the lake and depending on your kind of vehicle you could drive all around that lakeside area. So beautiful! We were too late to realize that and then there were already a bunch of young dudes having a party there.
Other than them we were the only ones spending the night here but this might change once life is “back to normal”.

Came here in April and couldn’t get to the spot because it was completely snowed in. We spent the night by the power lines you pass on the way in and weren’t bothered. The area is beautiful. The road in is quite potholed. Excellent Verizon service.

Very nice place for more then one night.
Near to the lake.

I stayed here for 5 nights! This is a great area, quiet and really pretty. There are many free wild camping site around the road. I was able to back my 22 feet travel trailer and park my car on the side. I am sure you will find a place to stay here. The trees are pretty tall so you probably won’t get any sun for your solar powers.
