Something not right?

Description

There are many pullouts along the wild and rugged lost coast here, many are small, and all have no privacy, except this spot. This pullout is right by a one lane bridge, below the road a bit, and with a few bushes for privacy. Traffic heading south will only see you for a split second because you are below the road a bit, and the bushes help to give privacy from northbound traffic. Besides this spot, the other pullout listed south of here is the largest of the pullouts on the northern half of the road, but that pullout is on a bend, so headlights shine directly on you from both directions, and you are exposed. The drive out here from Ferndale was 21 miles, took about an hour to an hour and a half, had steep inclines and declines, tight narrow curves, constant potholes, and rough sections, but it was an awesome drive, take the last section which descends to the coast in low gear. It is very windy here, in December, both during the day and currently at night, it is a constant strong wind with gusts that shake your vehicle, even when parked aimed at the direction of the wind, im hoping my roofbox will be ok. At least now I can say I was at the most western part of our country.

Stunning spot. Definitely out there, but very peaceful with only a few cars passing by. The trail to the private beach is so nice. Would absolutely stay here again.

Forgot to add in my review — the road out on the south side is not for the faint of heart! Glad I didn’t attempt it during the rain the day before. It has a few randomly unpaved parts, one of which is quite steep and I was concerned I might get stuck in mud on the hill (but didn’t). Interesting, beautiful drive for the adventurous type.

Not sure if the more private area has been blocked off recently (there were cement blocks and a dirt pile preventing vehicles from accessing part of the area parallel to the bridge with more bush cover), but I didn’t think the area was that private. Still, we stayed two nights uneventfully, other than some rain. Lovely black sand beach is accessible via the trail leading down from the blocked off area by the bridge. Absolutely NO cell service!

We camped on the south side of the bridge where you can get a bit further off the road. But this area is used as a turn around for some fairly large trucks/trailers so you need to make sure that you leave enough room for them to manoeuvre. We came in from the north. Took it slow, about 90 minutes but our 2007 22 ft C Class had no problems getting here. Great spot once the rain stopped. Some pretty quick traffic but they have to slow for the one lane bridge adjacent.

Beautiful, one of the most unique rarities is an unrestricted and quiet spot right along the undeveloped California coast. It's like big sur without the NIMBYs, but a tougher road to get in. I do not recommend coming in via Humboldt Redwoods and instead come via Ferndale, the road is in better shape and isn't nearly as taxing on the vehicle for hill climbs and braking.

BEAUTIFUL! The road is fine, the people upset must not be used to mountain driving? Unless they came in through a south entrance? I came from Ferndale. It was just very twisty but not rough, actually was being freshly paved on my way out haha
I parked along black sand beach/ devils gate. No one bothered me, but lots of slaughter trucks take cows out early around 4am. Kinda sadddd but Ferndale is a big dairy and beef town I guess. OTHER THAN THAT THE VIEWS WERE GREAT AND ROAD WAS GUCCI!!! Drive slow and not off a cliff. Shits steep!!! Ps sunset drive down was the best sunset I’ve ever seen in my life. Above the clouds! (Expect fog down by the beach) happy boonin’

Beautiful place, horrible road. But totally worth the adventurous ride!

As others have said. Good coverage from the bridge. **Please take your toilet paper with you when you use the restroom in the wild.** there was a little pile left behind under the bridge. It was a quiet night. Beach is a short walk from the spot. Mint/T-Mobile service went out about 5 miles up the road coming from the north. Road was terrible. Good free private spot for the night tho. Happy camping :-)

****not recommended for older or bigger vehicles ********
really pretty beach though, not sure it was worth the stress on my vehicle or me....absolutely the worst road I've ever been on. it is very steep, very damaged, narrow and windey. this road will be very hard on your engine and breaks. if you do decide to go plan on staying a few days and let people know where you are going before there is no cell service in the area. Make sure you have a full tank of gas before you go.

It was amazing and beautiful
a bit bumpy road

Super place. Stayed 2 nights. Windy. Come in from the north, Ferndale, NOT the south. Road horrible both directions. North entry is better.

A fantastic spot! If you're fine with roadside camping, this can't be beat. As mentioned, it is a bit off the road and safer than the other pull outs nearby. There were only 10-15 cars overnight and the views and beach can't be beat. Thanks for the spot. No Verizon service.

Great fairly quiet spot. Stayed for two days.

This section of coast is worth the effort to visit, it’s remote and unique. This spot is the best one, however there are others you can make work. Be sure to visit the redwoods on your way. It’s Always windy though I was able to block it with the van see pics. Enjoy!
