Quiet spot because the Cranes have left for the season. Still beautiful area with other birds and wildlife.

Third visit here, it never gets old. A bird lovers paradise! Many other bird species to see in addition to the cranes. Dress warmly and don’t forget your ‘nocs :)

P.S. check the weather! We came after heavy rains one year and got stuck in the mud, lucky we got out.

Wonderful place to see the birds flying. At the sunrise thousands of birds are flying, their cry is pleasant. I recommend to walk until the lake to see the sunset!

There's no dumpster here or bathrooms but it's quiet compared to the other parking area. The birds flew over us every morning from 10-11am. They were beautiful!! There's a walking trail but it's not close to the birds and might actually be off limits during crane season because if you walk (south)towards the main parking area to the left it will take you eventually to one of the crane areas. We saw from the parking area at the main site that, that road is closed during crane season. But there's no sign on this side. Just fyi.

The cranes fly right over here in the morning! Quiet and good spot with no amenities.

Main camping area was full, so we spent 2 nights in the overflow campsite. It was great, thousands of sandhill cranes flying over early in the morning.

WARNING!!! Following Google coordinates took us south of 191 onto a gravel road through what looked like someone’s farm and a cattle gate before we realized it had changed the location on us. Not sure if that’s just my Google, but worth sharing. 50 minutes out of the way :/ will report but wanted to put on here too. Type in name into Google and takes you right to it. Main site was busy so came to overflow a mile away and only 2 of us here at 7pm.

Pretty amazing place to stay for a day or two, the 20.000 wintering cranes are amazing. They take flight two times a day. The sounds of the cranes all day long is cool, so is the sounds of the hunting owls and coyotes.
Nothing much to the spot you camp as said, but the refuge it great. Will add some bird pics. Walks here to the birds, took our bikes down to the refuge area.

Back again. Fairly quiet. No other campers at either spot.
