Description

Great camping spot next to the ghost town of Animas Forks. Pit toilets nearby toward the old homes.

The road up is very rocky and is hard on an RV. There was a boulder on the trail further down when we visited, but we managed to squeeze past in our 2.5m wide truck.

They aren’t kidding about the tough road up, but we made it in our Overlanding vehicle. Glad we did. Amazing scenery. Bring some firewood for the fire rings. 🔥 🪵 It gets cold up here.

They aren’t kidding about the tough road, but we’re glad we did it. It gets chilly at night. Bring some firewood for the fire rings 🔥 🪵 as there’s nothing around up here. Exploring the buildings was fun.

Beautiful campsite next to the ghost town of Animas Forks off of the Alpine loop. 4WD high-clearance only to get here. Vault toilet up the hill near the ghost town. Gorgeous valley and river. Other sites around or more farther into the valley left of the ghost town. Bears sited during our visit.

Perfect spot! We brought our AWD GMC Safari here no problem. The road is wicked rugged getting to Animas Forks but just go slow and enjoy the scenery. The camp spot is right along the river overlooking a gulch with fantastic mountain views. Great marmot watching and right near the ghost town. Seems to be the only spot close to Animas Forks.

Awesome site for rooftop tent camping in a high clearance vehicle.
