Four nicely spaced sites - some with a palapa, all with a table - on a bluff overlooking Lower Madera Campground which is on the river flood plain. Beautiful views in all directions. A ways off the highway so very little traffic noise. Quiet at night. Fire pits. Portable toilet.
Nice place.

Fantastic view but hot hot hot. 8 PM and still 96F. The shelter gives some relief. Not sure how Texans survive haha. I'm alone on top and only one other in the lower. No cell with Verizon or AT&T. The toilets are in lower and not easily accessible from upper. The camps along the river are the most scenic and easy to access. Backcountry sites take at least 1hr of terrible washboard gravel
Report Check-InAs described 4 nice sites overlooking the Rio Grande. Reservations required and the permit needs to be picked up at Barton Warnock Visitor Center the day you want to stay here. Individual sites are not reservable but you pick what you want when you get here. We chose #3 as the views are amazing. The palapa’s are a godsend with the temps in the mid 90’s today but the shade and wind make for a very enjoyable experience.
Report Check-InStayed at the lower campground for a night & really enjoyed it. There were quite a few open sites (in stark contrast to Big Bend Natl Park which was all booked.) Great views by the river, vault toilets, nice sites.
