1 - maximum 2 cars place on the Kern river. River is accessible with a little scramble on big blocks and nearby hill is a good spot to enjoy the sunset. Pretty flat spot because of the remaining of a small concrete platform, maybe from the gold mining era. 178 is pretty close but very quiet at night. Not for big RVs.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
A nice secluded spot, but it’s at the bottom of a slightly treacherous drive through uneven dirt roads. We made it alright in our 2WD Promaster but on the way back out we did have a couple tire-spinning moments.
We arrived before sunset and stayed one night. It was super quiet at night, but in the morning seems to be a popular place for local dog walkers. We had a small awkward encounter with a man loudly complaining to his dog about how much he doesn’t like van lifers lol.
Overall it’s a beautiful spot but it is a bit of a tricky drive and because it’s at the bottom of a hill on a narrow path you can feel a bit trapped (if someone pulls in ahead of you you’re stuck)
Great privacy and cell signal though
Report Check-InWent on a Tuesday. Cool little spot secluded from the roads. Definitely looks like a local hangout spot as there is garbage and graffiti around. But there is a great view of the bridge and a short little hiking path that takes you closer to the water (super pretty). No one bothered us. Would stay again! (Included a photo from the hike)
Report Check-InGot here at 7pm on a Monday. Two locals were parked here, so I decided to camp at a pull off a little ways up the road. About 30 min later, they sped off blaring music. I went to go make sure the spot was now available, and saw that they had left a full blown campfire burning. I drowned it myself and proceeded to take the spot. There was a decent amount of alcohol cans around camp, but otherwise seemed nice. I was still getting a but of an unsettling vibe as I went to bed. At 4 am, they were back. They pulled right up into my camp, not 10 ft from my vehicle blaring music again. The music stopped after about 20 min but they stayed in my camp blocking the road to leave for an hour and a half. It seemed like they were probably here drinking. I felt too uncomfortable to get out of my vehicle and am glad they left before sunrise. Overall, I feel very unsafe here and would not recommend. If you see a silver Ford flex, I recommend leaving the area and camp elsewhere.
Update: Ford Flex came back around sunrise. Tried to turn around at the top of the hill (probably drunkenly) and ripped his front bumper off. Then came down the hill again and parked. Doesn't appear to be leaving.
Report Check-InRad spot. Roads a bit tight and bumpy but I got down with a Transit. You can see and here the highway across the river but it’s not bad at all. Little walking trails all over. Full AT&T bars
Report Check-InNuce spot tucked away, my only problem is there is a road bridge that is visible from the spot. Overlook to water down below. I made it in a Prius.
Report Check-In1 - maximum 2 cars place on the Kern river. River is accessible with a little scamble on big blocks and nearby hill is a good spot to enjoy the sunset. Pretty flat spot because of the remaining of a small concrete platform, maybe from the gold mining era. 178 is pretty close but very quite at night. Not for big RVs.
