DOC Camping right on the lake, beautiful views of the mountains, picnic benches, Kinloch Lodge for food and drinks next door, little pier for fishing. $15 pppn (adults)
Phone and 4G reception here was surprisingly good.
Further down the road, just out of Kinloch , you can camp responsibly i.e. freedom camping for Certified Self Contained vehicles and while there are not many spaces along the road to Greenstone to park up, you can park and camp the night at the Greenstone carpark where there are various walks, including the very beautiful 16km loop track to Rere Lake - highly recommended. There are also drop toilets at Greenstone.
