If going to Cerro San Cristobal, take the train and don't go walking through this path/trail, maybe only if you're in a bigger group. Our friends from hostel got mugged with a group of boys with knives here, around 3 PM - they took everything, including passports. Turned out, they weren't the first ones, last year there were at least another two other people robbed there.

I did this hike daily after work for about two years and never had an issue or seen anyone have an issue
Report Check-InWe walked the path down and it did not seem to be dangerous at all. We did not see any homeless people or someone dangerous.
Report Check-InHiked up the foot path with 1 other person, and mostly used the mtn bike downhill trails to get to the top. Passed by a few homeless encampments, but had no trouble from anyone. Many people had jogged or biked the road to the top.
Report Check-InThis route is closed for maintenance. If you want to walk up, there is a trail on the north side of the funicular, or you can take the road, accessible from the east side. Nice walk And good views from the top.
Report Check-Inif you want to walk up the hill, the path alongside the road (entering towards the east end by Parque Metropolitano car park) seems very safe during the day. Plenty of people - pedestrians, cyclists and cars around.
