Description

This is open land with two entrances, one before and one after a power transformer site set back from the road. Interesting terrain for hiking. The more southern road was a little soft/sandy in a couple of places so I was a little nervous to get stuck, but just kept my momentum up with front wheel drive van and was fine. I tested the more northern road entrance on the way out and it had at least one pretty deep wash that encouraged me to turn around and head back out the southern road. These are coordinates for a nice wide open spot where the two roads conjoin. Road continues further in. Wind started howling overnight. Not sure if that’s a thing here, but it sure is now! Great expansive views.

Beautiful views, many hiking possibilities. Dark, quiet, we were alone. The southern road is still much better. Both only for high clearence, one or two very deep washouts on the northern road near the tower.

This is an excellent camping spot. You likely need a high clearance vehicle to get to it but it’s only a little more than a mile off of the highway. You have the opportunity for good overland hikes in all directions. The mountain biking is not so good because the roads are a little sandy especially past the campsite. The Verizon cell service is extraordinarily good because you can actually see the tower by the highway and there’s no one using it but you. I’d recommend the site we did not see another camper in here for the four days we were in here. As the previous camper noted it can be windy here on our last night guess were more than 40 miles an hour.
