Description

Ten unimproved and private sites. Very rough rocky access over stream will bounce stuff from your cabinets, for about 3 blocks. Scrubby trees and grasses. Open area with 50 mile view to the west over Green Valley, AZ etc. Very pretty at night with city lights and glorious brilliant stars. It is a nice quiet camp area. It is our second year. We saw many deer and some javelinas last year. There are cows and their calves and this year they were a great nuisance, wanting to take back "our" site. Our trailer and SUV are covered with dirty slobber marks from the cows licking them the first night. We didn't get much sleep as they bumped the trailer all night. There are beautiful and easy hikes. An established NSF paved campground exists a few miles away at Madera Canyon.

Great remote camping area with about 10 designated camp sites. We came in on Saturday night and there were still two of the farthest ones out available. wait for a mountain bike ride along Elephant Rock Trail. first mile or so is very Rocky and then it Smooths out better. Watch for rattlesnakes though. my dog and I walked right over one!

Report Check-In

Got there around 5pm on Saturday, most spots were taken. Found a flat spot at Elephant Head Trailhead with a rock fire ring. Great quiet spot with good views. Cows were scattered around but didn't bother us.

Not recommended if it’s been raining recently, the road in was flooded out

What a beautiful area. The road in at the beginning is quite bumpy and narrow. Definitely no large rigs. The hiking trails are great.

Stayed in space 6 for few nights. Road is really rough and would not recommend any TT over 21 from back to hitch. It knocked some stuff out of the cupboards. Great places to hike. Nice view and lots of birds to see. Saw some deer, wild turkeys and lots of cows. Overall we had a nice time. But won’t be returning because the road was over the top washboard.

12 numbered spots on a dirt road. Road requires intentional driving, but I made it in (and more importantly - out) in a fwd Promaster van without issue.

Secluded, even with folks occupying the neighboring spots. Verizon was about 2 bars and slow, but stable enough for two video conferences I had while I stayed.

Tons of beautiful hiking in the area.
