Description

Wow! What a gem!

Cost: $10!
Ray, a.k.a. “Chopper”, a man who works for the city came by and said through the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Stevenson City Hall (104 Kentucky Ave, Stevenson, AL 35772, United States) a camper should stop by city hall on their way in, pay, and stay the day until sunset the following day! Worth it! In fact, he said he was heading that way, took my name and $10, then showed back up with a one page document and my pass.

There is electric (30, 20), potable water, and trash cans provided.

Water is potable, had a strong flow, and we topped off our tanks.

The trash cans were placed at each pole (which hosted two plugs, two water spigots, with standard RV spacing equal to that of a RV park.

No dumping of grey/black water offered.

The ground/field is all mostly perfectly level. Of note, watch the forecast. I checked the historical data before arriving to ensure that there has been limited rainfall due to the low lying area around this park. Aka... don’t get stuck.

The spaces are backed up against a beautiful tree-line along the Eastern edge. So if you’re solar preferred, you’ll have to move to catch any rays of sun before noon.

There was light vehicle movement all night, on a Saturday night, which is normal because there’s a boat launch directly west by Southwest under a mile away.

Check the photos! Peace!

Awesome camp spot. We rolled in at sunset and had the place to ourselves. Maintenance came by mid morning to say hi. They said you only need to pay the $10 if you are using the electric. Wish we were staying awhile to check out the historic train depot and fort.

Report Check-In

Open field along lakefront with utility poles for electric hookups and water spigots. Very clean area, trash cans provided. We were the only ones here. Local traffic for the youth league baseball and a few joy riders, but otherwise quiet. Did have train noise periodically. No signage or drop box for payment.

Had a very chill stay here. A few bugs but otherwise no one else around. Backed truck up to water and enjoyed a great view.

Spent two nights here car camping. I’m thinking you only need to pay if you want to hookup. The electric boxes were locked, but I was able to use the water to top off my gallon jug and rinse off my extremities after a hike.

As I was preparing to leave on the second morning an officer drove up. He didn’t say anything about paying and just chatted with me and gave me some tips on nice places to hike in the area.

The park is pretty active during the day, but quiet at night. There is a swimming pool, so there might be showers, but I didn’t check.

There was a nice place to watch the sunset by the water.

I am pretty sure this place is free!
It’s a campground within a city park that has electricity, water, and trash.
Called a few times, but couldn’t get ahold of anyone. I checked the website, asked locals... there was also an RV parked while I was here but didn’t see anyone using it.
I stayed for two nights without issue
Place is pretty under water after the last two weeks of bad storms
