Something not right?

Description

This place is now a private, day only use area.

Directions: Take the Puerto Escondido turnoff from Hwy 1. About 500m down that road, just before the RV park, take the dirt road on the right. There should be a small green chain link enclosed area on your right just after you turn off.

A guard in a small trailer is from the government tourism agency Fonatur. We were told camping is free.

Follow the sign to Playa El Quemado beach at the fork, then take the left and right at the next forks respectively. The access road is clearly visible on Google Satellite view.

At least 15 private sites line the beach.

Report Check-In

There was a man there at the road fixing his car that said it was now a private area and that you could not camp there, or pay to camp at the beaches there anymore.

Report Check-In

A Fonatur representative in a small trailer stopped us to ask the duration of our stay and our name. He said camping is OK and free--he is there from the government tourism agency to help with security and keeping things clean. We drove the 15+ private sites and walked the beach a bit. There is a trail network with a map sign at the northern end of the beach.

The local police come by a are not allowing long term camping. They said it’s alright for a night or 2

2400mp/month for those so inclined.

Great kayak launch site. Well maintained.

Overnight parking can be arranged in secure lot at Hotel Tripui for about 60mp/night, 20 minutes walk away.

Excellent launch site for kayaking to Parque Nacional Bahia de Loreto.

Report Check-In

Tricky to find but sandy track is fine for 2wd. It was confusing because when you get near it's unclear as to what's going on. Scrubby trees, small spurs of sand pull ins, beach, trash cans, most spaces claimed by long term, and so we parked and walked around looking for an empty space. Water is beautiful, mountains behind are sharp and spiky, it's very unique. Not a place I'd heard about.

Here for 4 nights, mostly calm except on the #1 spot on Saturday night when locals comes for fiesta. 100 pesos per night collected once a week. Trash pick up! Clean and awesome snorkeling. Beautiful hiking from camp spot. Looking over the bay and also over the hills toward puerto Escondido beautiful view. Easy hike! Bring lots of water! Restaurant in the port!

Report Check-In

Not a free beach, we paid 100 pesos a nite. Mostly long timers and there is not much access to the water. There was reports of banditos so keep your things locked up.

Report Check-In

This not a free beach, we paid 100 pesos a nite and the rent collector came in twice in the week we stayed. The beach has mostly long term campers and there is not much access to the water. There was reports of bandits so keeps your things locked up.

Report Check-In

This is not a free beach, we paid 100 pesos per night. Busy beach with lots of full timers and really not much access to the beach. There are reports of bandits so keep your things locked up.

Report Check-In

Current rate is 100 pesos a night. You may or may not be there when they come by, but it’s usually a weekly visit.
Location is a most people have described. We’ve stayed here in a tent before and in a westy. Both benefit from the berms as it blocks the wind nicely when it flairs up. The vegetation is nice for privacy between sites. The ‘permanents’, as someone mentioned, are absolutely a great group of people. Don’t be surprised if you arrive around 4pm and a game of bocce ball is occurring, so slow down and enjoy the ‘locals’. Plus they are a great resource of local information. Great SUP location as well, but usually need to be off the water by 11 or 12.

Very disappointing. My question is also why people come here to spend their winter. You need to drive through a garbage dump to get there. Beautiful view is obstructed by bushes that don't even give you enough shade nor support to put up a tarp and they are full of garbage too. I thought people care more about their semi-permanent camp. There is small fishing shack right on the beginning. Maybe further south the spots get nicer, we saw about first 5, it was muddy further down.

Report Check-In

Ok stop for a night while passing through. Easy access from highway on good dirt road. Yes there are many snow birds who really establish themselves for the winter but we managed to find a bit of space to ourselves further south down beach. Quiet, clean and safe with no facilities. No fee collected.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place BUT a lot of snow birds. All the beautiful places were full. They have an emergency parking lot for you....

Report Check-In

We drove in here from Tripui to check out sites. It looked like mostly Canadians hogging all the better spots semi permanently. My question was...why? Not that appealing apart from the view, probably excellent kayaking, too, but scabby brush and dark rocky beach, we chose not to stay.

Report Check-In

nice by the small stoney beach, man comes around normally on sundays to empty the bins & collect money.
most spots taken by snowbirds, who seem to think there are the "beach pölicia" wanting to know how you hear about this?
but otherwise a chilled place.

Report Check-In

It is crowded and the best sites are taken by the permanents. There is a 2 km of gravel road and the brach is full of rocks.

Report Check-In

we camped here on our road trip through Baja and loved it. the beach isn't as beautiful as other beaches in Baja but the islands in the water are stunning. when we were here there was no other campers at all! there's a great little hike on the northern end of the beach that goes up the cliff and gives you an amazing view, worth going up there for sunrise. it took us an hour return to do the hike.

Report Check-In

About a dozen large spots along the ocean, mostly occupied by longer term campers. There were a couple of spots free when we came, but even if the primary spots are gone there is room to fit in here and there. Free.

The spots are generally well protected from wind, among the shrubs above the high tide line. The beach is rockier than usual and water clarity is reasonable. Sand fleas as usual.
