With the no reservation policy at the Laguna Mountain and Upper Sweetwater BLM Campgrounds, it can be hard to be sure of a spot. Fortunately there are a few roadside camp-legal spots (verified with the ranger) that are actually quieter than the campground itself. There's one directly adjacent to the campground entrance, and one across the road, but we went to a wide spot a couple turns down which gets you away from the in-and-out traffic (not that it was too bad). Actually a very pleasant spot with a beautiful view of the galley. Walk to the campground pit toilets is about 10 minutes...also where the trailhead is for the hike into The Gorge and its waterfalls when water is running.

Made it here in our 36’ skoolie with no problems. Road is paved but not well maintained. Great free campsite! Fire rings, picnic tables, and big sites. Very quiet
