Something not right?

Description

There are a few sites at the South end of the peninsular, away from the lighthouse. Used by fisherman too. We entered from the south after overnight at Peurto Deseado, good. Tried to get back to Ruta 3 near Fitzroy as shown on our map but blocked by locked gate 31 km out. This caused a backtrack and added 150 km to the adventure! Suggest use track from south both ways. We saw rockhopper and Magellanic penguins moulting. They don't breed here. Also red legged shags and Southern elephant seals were spotted.

Loved this place. Stayed for two nights. Check weather and wind forecasts, as this place is very exposed. Lots of sea life to watch. There are some sort of toilet constructions one can use. Apart from that you feel set back in time and if you are lucky you have this historic, natural place all to yourself.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place, as reported. Small cemetery amd two abandoned buildings (former post office - mail delivered by boat!). Attention: several maps show a direct track along the coast to Puerto Deseado - this track does not exist any more, as police checkpoint confirmed! So you have to take the same route back to RN 281.

On a warm but very windy day we met nobody at all on the RP91. Cabo Blanco all for ourselves. Seadogs on the islands in front off the lighthouse. Only dead pinguïns, comorants and gulls on the beach. We managed to find a well wind sheltered campsite. Worth the trip. We loved thé last 10 k to the cape with pleanty of mara, guanaco and sheep running away followed by huge dustclouds.

Wonderful wild coast. Lots of sealions by the lighthouse and a colony of nesting cormorans down at the sifon. On the other side is a protected beach with some Magellanic pinguines (unfortunately lots of death ones as well). The place is used by locals for fishing. Pit toilets (very dirty) and trash (wach out the broken glass debris).

We spent 3 nights here at 2 different spots, fantastic nature, perfect for a short hike, beautiful sunrises&sunsets. Only bad point are mice, they went into the motor and broke the isolation & some cables, not the best sound to wake up at :(

There are several possible camping spots at the sea shore. You should choose your spot depending on the direction of the wind. The nature around is great and offers a big sea lion colony and some bird colonies. The only noise are the sound of the waves and some animals crying.

Very nice Spot to spend the Night ( : no Penguins. Some fishermen told us that they come occasionally. But there is a loberia on the Rocks in front of the lighthouse.

Report Check-In

The lighthouse guy told us the penguins are only here between February and April. We saw a bunch of sea lions and sadly lots of dead penguins...
