This place is great, has seasonal closures. No-utilities site is $7. Can only pay for one night. I’m on the lakeside. I drove through both sides. Lakeside seems to have fewer bugs. Post at the site has a QR for checking in. A lot of work is being carried on to get this place back in shape. This campground appears to be very underutilized.

Absolutely lovely campground! Cheap primitive sites at $7 and the camp host is very friendly (he will tell you lots of stories!). You can tell there’s being work done to create really beautiful spots. The lake is gorgeous and lots of walking trails around. Beautiful!
Report Check-InSecond visit: more campsites have been completed. There was no power on the rv side as there had been a lightning strike. $7/$3.50 with senior pass. Host accomodating. Showers should have hot water he said but if not let him know. Pretty much had my pick of the whole place. Fire rings picnic tables. Tent pads. The spot where I parked was not level but the tent pad was.

Report Check-InVery quiet campground. We were 1 of 2 campers and there was a campground host. We practically had the place to ourselves. The campground was damaged in a storm so there is still a lot of work to do to clear most camp sites, but we had no trouble finding a level site with water and power. The showers and bathrooms were still out of order due to storm damage , but why had nice porta pottiea available. Almost all the sites are a short walk to the lake that has a small beach and playground. The beach is perfect for launching a kayak or SUP. The host was pleasant and we checked in and paid via the Recreation.gov app. Great deal for $20.
Report Check-InEmpty campground at Chewalla Lake. It is a good ways off the road and is clearly not being used for camping. There are some sites that will work even though the road that leads to the camping area is closed. We set up in the parking lot to the boat ramp (rooftop tent). The lake is opened for day use (boating/fishing) but there was no one else in the campground with us during the night. The beach access of the lake is temporarily closed due to vandalism. Pit toilets on site but the doors were jammed shut. Overall, quiet and peaceful place to rest for the night.
Report Check-InI'm not even sure this is technically open. no host, self pay. tons of sites but isn't very maintained. good place to stop if needed. sign says day use and bathrooms are closed but there is no one here to enforce anything at this time.
