Guatemala to Belize | Customs and Immigration

The buildings on the Guatemala side are undergoing renovation so prepare for a little more chaos than usual, process seems unchanged from earlier reports.

I crossed into Guatemala today from Belize at Benque Viejo del Carmen. It took me about an hour to get through. It cost $30 BZD to exit Belize. Walk into the immigration office, and there is a small kiosk on the left to pay the exit fee. Then, stand in line for the immigration exit stamp. After that, go through the door behind the kiosk where you paid the exit fee. Steer to the left and get Customs to cancel the import of your motorcycle. Then, ride through Belize Customs. They will inspect your passport for the exit stamp, as well as request the receipt for the exit fee. Guatemalan Aduana will inspect and fumigate your motorcycle. There's a narrow corridor to the right of the spray booth, so you don't get fumigated, too. Ride through this coordior and park in front of the building on the right, where you'll pay $16 GTQ for the fumigation. Guatemalan Aduana requires copies of your license, registration, passport, and the page with the Guatemalan entrance stamp. There are folks around that can help with copies and whatnot. It cost $200 GTQ at a little booth near Aduana on the Guatemalen side. It's $40 GTQ more than the posted $160. Otherwise, you have to walk down to the bank.

Rode my bike to Guatemalan immigration. Passport stamped within seconds. Was walking out when a female staff member asked me in English if I had dealt with my motorbike... I hadn't. She was Uber friendly and helpful... walked me over to get the paperwork done and a couple of minutes later I was done.

Entering Belize, I had to disinfect my bike, fill out a form at immigration, go to customs re my motorcycle... if staying 4 days or less, it's a lot less hassle than if staying longer. Finally, pay my entrance fee and I am in Belize. Oh yeah, I was supposed to get insurance for my bike but I couldn't find the insurance place and am leaving Belize in a couple of days so I am not going to bother. Will report if I get arrested or something.

- BAHA office to get dog import certificate. Have to have an authorization given before coming to the border, has to be done online through BAHA website.
- 70$B (35$USD) for the certificate, officer will come inspect if dog doesn’t have wound or anything wrong.
- Get the mandatory car insurance after driving 1 min, right side of the road. 23$USD for 2 weeks. Sticker has to be put on the windshield, drivers side.
- First police control on the road will only look for the sticker.

We were at the border at 5:30 PM on a Sunday and paid nothing for the bridge nor for the TIP (nobody at the cashier). We were asked to put a camping address in Belize. Fruits and vegetables were checked. We had some bananas, apples and pineapple. They advised us that it was not allowed but it was ok for that time.
All insurance offices were closed. We need to come back on Monday.

Guatemala to Belize crossing. Steps we had to take:
1. Pay for the bridge, 60Q (car plus a trailer)
2. Exit the country, inside the building, on the right.
3. Cancel the TIP in a Blue SAT booth outside.
4. Fumigation: accept Belizean dollar or quezales. Paid 90Q(car plus trailer).
5. Park on the right side. Go to the get Belize entrance stamp.
6. Get Belize TIP, 30 B dollars.
7. Go back to your car and drive out to one of the wooden huts on the right side to get car insurance. Open till 6 pm.

And off you go. It took us about an hour though. Wasnt as nice and easy as other CA borders. Although all fine.

Only paid 30Q at the bridge and B$12 for fumigation (charge for SUV). Had to pay B$30 for transit and the card machine wasn’t working so needed to pay in cash. There were plenty of money changers around but no ATM.

Hotel bookings and Covid proofs no longer required as far as we could tell.

we drove through on Saturday and bank on-site was closed so went to a vendor outside ( convenience shop) for photocopies and to pay for TIP online. she charged 200Q including fee. TIP should be 160Q at bank

the fact that they don't make copies or accept payments on-site makes this whole process very cumbersome

Guatemala-Belize; the easiest and fastest border we crossed in CA. Immigration officer didn’t ask us any question and gave us 30 days (we put some random street of a hotel in the form).

Crossing from Belize to Guatemala. Smoother crossing than into Mexico or Belize. Process:
Drive through fumigation
Park on left and get out
Go to outside window on right after fumigation and pay for fumigation: 17Q
Enter building
Go to person on right to record vaccine info. Our five-year-old is not vaccinated and didn’t need to do anything. (We’re not sure of the test process if you aren’t vaccinated.)
Fill out visa forms for adults

Need passport and license of driver, vehicle title, and photocopies of all. In the passport, both the face page AND Guatemala stamp need to be photocopied. There is a copy shop nearby that opens at 8 a.m. (Tuesday).
Aduana agent walks outside to see vehicle. He asked if we had anything for resale, but didn’t ask about fruit or any food.
Bank on-site doesn’t open until 8, so we walked to a pharmacy to pay for TIP. (Feel free to reach out on social media if you need directions.)
Cost is normally 160 TIP, but we paid 173 Q with pharmacy fees (5 Q service charge and credit card surcharge).

Report Check-In

The best organized and friendliest border since we started in Panama. Exit Guatemala and enter Belize took about 1-2 hours (between 12-1 pm is lunch break and the border is closed).

Leaving Guatemala is very easy. Everything happens in one building. The counter for the exit stamp and the tip are right next to each other. You can’t miss the building.

Entering Belize is easy as well. First drive through the desinfection road and pay at the end. Drive through the left gate and answer some questions to a border officer (how long, which hotel, etc)

Than make a covid test at the wooden building (no other tests are accepted). About 100 BZ$ pP but you can pay by card.

The migration office and the customs is in the same building and it’s like a „Walk through“.

The officers at the border were extremely friendly. We got one month for us and almost the same time for our car (the customs officer asked us how long we would like to get the tip).

In total it was easy and quick and the friendliest officers we met so far.

Note: they didn’t want to see our golden standard reservation. They only asked for the hotel name.

We crossed the border today in our camper van. We had no issues.

Fees:
50 Quetzals to cross the bridge (cash only).
8 Belize dollars for vehicle fumigation (cash only).
100 Belize dollars (or 50 USD) per person for the PCR test (cash only). They don't accept PCR test results that you bring in, you have to take the test at the border. They just swab your nostril and don't go deep into your nose so it's not too bad.
30 Belize dollars for vehicle importation (cash or credit card).

You must show "Gold Standard" hotel reservations for the entire duration of your stay. They will only let you stay in the country for the number of nights that you have booked. You need to book a minimum of 3 nights. We booked a hotel with free cancellation and canceled as soon as we crossed the border. You can extend your stay by booking more nights later on and visiting the immigration office in Belize City.
