We were send away by the military when we arrived in the evening (after we couldn’t find a place in Karbala). They said it is not safe.
Report Check-InWe stayed 2 days here. We camped a little bit hidden and with some shadow down the cliff.
Nobody came.
We stayed two days a few hundred meter north.
You have to go through a few checkpoints they let us through with a little talking. The police came bye our camp to check and we got the phone number of them if anything happened we can call. Peaceful quiet nights!
Watch where you drive it can be very muddy at the shore.
Another Iraq fail. First of all the lake is TRASHED. So I went a little upper in the sand to have lunch. Unfortunately a police guy who was here having picnic with his family thought it was his "duty" to check me. I lost half an hour trying to explain that I just came here to picnic and that all my documents were in order. Bad experience.
Report Check-Inlooks nice put practicly impossible to camp for westerners. took us half a hour to convince security people that we only would like to picknick. Locals have no problem to enter and stsy.
