We reached the parking from Laya with our rig 6x2.15x3.3m, wheelbase 3.7m, with turbo. The road is in good condition, no more landslides. We recommend low gear, without maybe not possible.

Caminata muy bonita. Nosotros tuvimos que aparcar en una curva ancha antes de llegar a la zetas. Había varios desprendimientos en el camino. Solo pasaban motos hasta el aparcamiento de arriba. En el parking había un señor de Layo que nos pidió 10 sol para pasar. No teníamos y no hubo problema. Parece que esto es solo a la hora de los tours. Había 2 furgonetas de tours el día en que fuimos. Pero sigue siendo un sitio poco turístico.

Hicimos el acenso de esta montaña muy linda, en 1h30. El sendero está bien marcado, a veces hay carteles y arriba hay piedras blancas. Es un atajo bien empinado pero evita hacer los zig-zag de la carretera. Tuvimos que aparcarnos más abajito en la carretera porque había un derrumbe, incluso dormimos allí una noche con esta hermosa vista.

incredible place! so much more satisfying to experience this wild place for free after the tourist trap of rainbow mountain. so much better here. do not miss! Google directions here are correct, there is no sign and it looks like someones driveway at first. the last kilometer is very steep and dangerous most of the turns are so narrow we had to do a 3 point turn on many of them and absolutely no where to pass once you start. only a group of six up here all day. we brought the dogs with us. only a couple of places up top where it would be dangerous for them to go over the edge if not on leash.

Really awesome place and very goof described by previous poster. The Parking is after all switchbacks up, next to a Trekking sign. We needed to go in low gear driving up the steep switchbacks, otherwise we wouldn't have enough power due to no-turbo charged Diesel engine in altitude.

Very beautiful place.
Colored mountain (mostly red / withish blue).
No one around and free. Best tine to go is after 12, when the sun lit both sides of the mountain.

To get there, you can can drive on gravel road on good condition, until you reach a flat area to Park at around 4550m. We made easily with a 5m van with 2WD and turbo. Impossible with Big Rigs as the turno along the road are very narrow.

When you are at the « car park » the hike is short (30 to 40min) and easy and well maintaned to reach the view from the top at 4700m.

Lot of Space to sleep there, but its windy and cold.
