Free BC recreation site.
While 2WD is fine, ensure you have a high clearance and the road takes a while due to massive potholes.
Stunning lake though.
Very much in bear country!

the recreaton site is nice. the forest road is only for 4x4. i come here with my 21 feet RV Sprinter. it was very busy and i never do it again. 6km, 1 hour ...but a big bear crossed me on road.

Place is nice and calm, only us and other car. Several fire pits, benches and pit toilet.
THE ROAD is full of holes!!! Do not attempt with small clearence car, 4x4 better to have. Few cars can fit in.

I didn’t actually make it to the site, so I can’t confirm its prettiness, but I just wanna add, unless 4wd not exactly winter friendly. 18% grade up a couple hairpins was definitely an experience to tackle in 2wd van. Would love to see it when it isn’t ice and snow :p.

Can confirm! Super pretty site! There were a tonnnnn of bugs. Never seen so many! But they were of all sorts and most of them didn't bite, except for the flies.

We also managed to fit like five or six? vans. It was a bit crowded. But, we didn't want to be rude by asking them to go away and appreciated the company anyway.

Kinda a busy road on the weekend.

Definitely a rough road but we were able to make it with a FWD van, took about 25 minutes from the main road. Very nice spot and great fishing for trout if you go lure-less and get to the deeper part of the lake using a paddle board.

A very beautiful site, and very secluded. The road up is pretty tricky definitely a high clearance vehicle needed, and in wetter times a 4x4. Just a warning that when we arrived the people before us had been very irresponsible in regards to their food waste and left it all behind, we did our best to clean up, and left a bare campsite as we always do, but we had visitors that night from several bears, what we can only suppose as a mom and cubs. This was an exceptionally scary night for us, and we just wanted to leave a warning. (P.s the bugs are dreadful at the moment)

superbe spot la route est difficile il faut y aller doucement bcp de trou route étroite
quand on croise un autre véhicule c est la cata j'ai une subaru crosstreck 2 spots avec table un sans trois fire pit et un toilette pas de signal
superbe lac pour se baigner bcp de poissons on entend les animaux qui ne sont pas tres loin... arriver tôt pour avoir un spot. a 17h c'était plein un mardi soir le 21 sept.

Beautiful spot if you can get to it!! Do not attempt this drive in a 2WD if the weather is wet! We tried to get up there today in our van and almost slid of the side of the slope. Very narrow windy road with lots of pot holes, rust, mud and no service to call for help. We got about 100m away from the site so walked down to check it out, it was beautiful but impossible for us to get too. I don’t feel inclined to attempt it again even on a nice day. Scariest drive I think I’ve ever done!

Great spot! Hartley Lake road is a bit rough for 2wd vehicles but our van did it. there are picnic tables and fire pits and an outhouse here.

Beautiful lake, easy to get to. Only 3 spots but just one other camper on a Saturday night. Lots of birds and fish jumping in the lake.
