Excelente camping. Super indico

Report Check-In

This place is great! I have visited Jan and Marieke several times since I started traveling in South America with my mobil home in August 2022. The place gets better every time, Jan and his right hand Jochen are working everyday, building, restoring and keeping everything clean and in good condition. Shower, Sauna and swimming pool are clean. Drinking water is very good. As there are almost always several nationalities on the camping and many people that travelled several years in South America, you get a lot of good information. The five o'clock wine break is becoming legendary and is great fun! Marieke and Jan are fantastic hosts. The Chacra has a - for me - great location, away from the busy coastal area, it's quiet and peaceful, but you are close to the beach and shopping centers in Atlanta(see the pictures). A good place to get started and prepare your vehicle for your travels if you shipped one to Montevideo, or to get everything ready to ship it back home. It's a shame my time in South America has ended, I am going to miss the continent and the wonderfull people that live here.

Report Check-In

another positive review for this great place! water is oké now. we enjoy the 5 o'clock drinks and the local Tanat wine is super. we use our bikes a lot, you can go to Atlantida (5 km), or Montevideo (60 km). everything is said before, worth the money ($20 p/n) thanks! We will come back when we are in the neighbourhood.

Report Check-In

We liked this place very much. we spent the last days of our trip here and prepared the car for shipping. We can't imagine a better place to do this. Jan was extremely helpful. There is a very friendly vibe between all travellers. Commonly used space is very generous. We used the oven to do Pizza. Hot shower with good pressure. Everything in good shape and frequently cleaned. We recommend! Travellers with pets should ask Jan, as there are five very friendly dogs.

Report Check-In

We liked coming to Jan & Marieke that much, that we started our trip there at Sept 2023, and decided to finalise our trip there in June 2024.
I think most is already said regarding the facilities, but regardless you won't come anything short here, they have all you could possibly need, including a newly built water well which gives you fresh drinking water.
Jan, Marieke and Jochem are never shy to help you, in our case Jan helped us to get to the hospital for my fiancé to be treated. And during the night, you can have a hell of a good time playing table tennis, however, they got a lot better since end 2023! Thanks for your hospitality and we will think back of you for sure. see you later! Michiel & Mariska.

Report Check-In

We spent a week there, very nice and helpfull owners. Swimming pool, electricity, hot shower, WC, drain pit, water, shared kitchen, wifi, eggs from hen, flat and grassy, calm.
20US$ per day.

This wonderful place has some amazing upgrades: a beautiful newly renovated kitchen area to prepare your own food, a washing machine in the kitchen area with lines to hang your clothes outside, a lovely loft for rent with its own toilet, and... a spacious place to dispose of your wastewater.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place to stay, with well maintained swimming pool, sauna, nice big kitchen with washing machine to use. Everything clean and tidy. Just like the toilets and shower room. Also areas for BBQ/parilla
Even an option to rent the Loft, for example in bad weather or just because you like it🙃
Not to forget the super nice and hospitable Dutch owners Jan and Marieke. They speak Spanish, English, German
----------------

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Great campground. Friendly people and you get to meet other overlanders.

Their water supply is not clean and has a lot of sediment. Best if you fill up with water at a gas station on your way here.

Report Check-In

The usual great ambiance. Friendly and peaceful and clean. Marieke and Jan are wonderful hosts. There are several dogs but they did NOT bark in the night and they were not aggressive. We needed a dentist for a tooth extraction. Jan took us to the dentist and waited for us until the treatment was completed. Total relaxation.

Report Check-In

Very good campsite close to ATLANTIDA. Taxi is 500 U$. Very friendly hosts, good place to meet other overlanders. 20 US$ per night including car and all persons. Two showers and two toilets.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay for a few days. One hour from Montevideo. Jan and Marieke are very friendly and good hosts. Grassy spots, clean bathrooms. $20 per night per vehicle.
If you have a dog check it out first. They have three and one of them is very dominant and can be moody towards your dog. Very friendly to people though.

Report Check-In

In other campsites the hosts are nice and welcoming, but we sometimes get the impression that with this they fulfill their duty. But with Jan and Marieke we have the impression that they really enjoy having guests.
And we enjoyed our visit!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Truly excellent. Marieke en Jan are super friendly owners. Great amenities including swimming pool. We stayed longer than initially planned.

Report Check-In

Wether your South American trip ends here or your journey just begins, this is the place to unwind, relax, meet new friends, get updated travel information or repair your car. Beautiful farm grounds with inviting pool, sauna, hammocks or horse rides. Internet and hot showers are of course also available. Marieke and Jan are the perfect hosts and you have missed something in Uruguay if you don't come here. It's just perfect.

Report Check-In

This wonderful place is as described in the previous reviews: a peaceful and beautiful farm with friendly animals (dogs, cats, horses, chicken and a pig called Milanesa), with many amenities to help have great time (swimming pool, communal area, parrillas). The heart of La Chacra are their hosts Jan and Marieke, this lovely couple made us feel at home while being there, and we will for sure come back when we are again in Uruguay.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place - we stayed for over 3 weeks. Jan is constantly making this place even better for overlanders. There is now a big fireplace to sit around in the evening or on cold days. He has also built a parilla for the campers. We were able to use two of his bikes to go shopping in the nearby shops or to go to Atlantida to the beach. And there is a good Peluqueria (Patricia) nearby. Thank you Marieke & Jan for sharing your paradise with us!

Report Check-In

As already described a wonderful spot where you are made to feel part of the family.

Report Check-In

This wonderful, amazing and relaxing campground is fully functional and as welcoming as ever. The facilities are spotlessly clean. The wifi is fast and the hosts are super accommodating, easy-going and multi-lingual. They can help you with repairs, special projects and transportation to the nearby bus stop if you want to visit Montevideo. The pristine swimming pool is especially inviting. There's a sauna too. There are many fascinating little sitting areas to relax and interesting animals to keep everybody entertained. The price is $15US per night for a camper and two adults.

Another glowing review for La Chacra Holandesa. Jan and Marieke were lovely hosts. We drove up quickly from Montevideo to find a propane tank with a US fitting (they have lots of gear from travellers using this a landing or departure stay). We were greeted with a glass of wine in their beautiful outdoor communal living room. It's a large, peaceful farm with many friendly dogs, cats and horses on the property. There's a guest room as well as lots of space for campers and tents. We were sad to leave them that night to return to our Airbnb in the city, but will be sure to return. Thanks again!

Report Check-In

Really nice place and good vibes!
Jan and Marike are very friendly and great hosts.
It's a rural place with horses, pig and chickens (you can get fresh eggs every day). There are a lot of things leave here by travellers, you can get it or exchange it.
Perfect spot to start or to end your trip.

Perfect calm location to stay for a couple of days. A lot of nice animals the kids can play with. Jan and Marieke are very nice and relaxed hosts. Highly recommended. Only downside is the slow internet.

Report Check-In

This is probably our favorite place in Uruguay. Quiet, rural and just great to relax and chill...
We even visited Buenos Aires from there, just left the van there.
The place is cheap, the airport or the shipping is also nearby. Marieke and Jan are incredibly nice and helpful, sometimes organise BBQ's, help you with the transport for shopping and with everything else. We will be back!

Report Check-In

It is wonderful to stay at the campo of La Chacra Holandese at the hospitable and cozy Marieke and Jan. A fantastic place to start and end your tour. The port and airport of Montevideo as well as the storage-facility of UY-Storage are close by. Facilities (toilet, hot shower, kitchen, canteen, parilla's) are good and clean. An absolute must this unique campsite.

I cannot say enough good about this place! This is a most stop for all overlanders. I would have stayed a week if I could have! If you enjoyed the vibe of SwissWassi in Peru, you'll find this again right here with Jan and Marieke.

A family run business, but money isn’t their main concern. I was treated like a friend, with a lot of respect, care, good food, permission to use the kitchen and bathroom of a small cottage, I was taken shopping, Jan fixed my numberplate, Marieke had my money belt repaired....I stayed for16 days and loved it. Will be missing them

Report Check-In

Great and super friendly camping! Good bathrooms, use of kitchen and bbq pit. Jan and Marieke are most welcoming hosts. You can also rent a very cute little cottage for a while. Surroundings totally peaceful, but still close enough from Atlantida if you need to do some shopping or beach!

Marieke an Jan are wounderfull people! JUST GO!!! We stayed here for a long long time with our three kids!

The campo ist located on a beautiful quiet landslide, surrounded by farm land, horses and cows. They are lovely, funny and great companions for a evening conversation with wine and a delicious asado.
Their 3 dog, 2 cats, 3 horses and some chickens are full part of the family. it was especially for our 3 kids a wounderfull time. They could just jump around the whole day. Playing with the animals. Helping Marieke with gardening. Building with Jan around the houses. Always learning something that for sure ist gonna be useful all their life. Marieke and Jan are so warmhearted and patient with our 3 kids and our hole family :-)

To you both, best luck with your life on the campo and with all your projects and great ideas. Hope to see you again! Thank you guys for everything!

Besides wonderful campground with the opportunity to stay inside a house by cold and rainy weather with a wooden stove and a cooking place, you have also the opportunity to stay in a lovely, clean and warm little house with a wooden stove, 2 sleepingrooms, a bathroom with hot shower and a kitchen. This is one of the most relaxed campgrounds we visited on our trip through South-America. We were here nine days and enjoyed every day. Jan and Marijke borrow you a bike for free, have a special oven to make pizzas om Wednesday, eggs from their own chickens, give you information about the surroundings, take you to the bus to Montevideo and the environment is very soothing.
In short come along and enjoy.

Report Check-In

Wonderful place to stay and take stock! Excellent overlanding respite, especially before and after taking a Grimaldi container ship to or form Montevideo!
Jan and Marieke are so welcoming, hospitable and generous. Their rural life-style property ( with dogs, horses and chickens) can fit big and small rigs and also has a small cottage on Airbnb. The bathroom and shower are quite rustic currently but clean:) With bikes, it is easy to reach the beach, the river, hit the markets and bigger shops in Atlantida. We couldn't get any money out from ATMs but we could change money at cambios.
Instead of staying the planned one night, we stayed seven! We couldn't miss a shared parrilla ( BBQ) on the Sunday or a pizza night on the Wednesday!:) thank you Jan and Marieke for the great stay!
Paid: 250 pesos pp, extra 100 per night for electricity and 100 to use the washing machine.

Report Check-In

I absolutely loved my three nights at the campo. Marieke and Jan are the best. They also do work away if you're interested, but contact them in advance. The property is super relaxing and if you're lucky Jan will fire up the pizza oven or make some asado. It's also close enough to Montevideo to make a day trip and come back to the campo at night. Awesome place. A must stop for bikers going through Uruguay.

Marieke was an amazing host! We stayed at her place for two nights to prepare the car for the shipping. The cottage was occupied, but she offered us to use her own bathroom, as her husband wasn’t there at that time (normally you can use the cottage-facilities if you camp there, but
they are still in the process of building, so it will be even more perfect in the future!). There is a lot of space, nice, quiet surroundings.. And friendly dogs and cats :) We paid 300 Pesos / 10 US$ per night and would definitely recommend staying here!!
