iOverlander cannot verify if wild camping is permitted at this location. It is your responsibility to verify local laws or obtain consent before staying the night.
Easiest and most comfortable part of the BLM area to get to (use Highway 62 -> Sunfair Road -> East Broadway). Windy but beautiful and very close to Joshua Tree National Park (10 - 20 minutes). Preceding instructions describe the easiest route to this spot. Do not park on the right when entering the area, stay left.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This is NOT BLM land! It is private property which has been invaded by homeless camps. I had a long conversation with a local landowner who explained that the website postings are in error. They frequently put up No Trespassing signs and the homeless take them down. The locals do not have a good way to get rid of them. My husband and I stayed one time, thinking it felt unsavory there. The second time we were stuck for a place to stay so we went but were told by the local resident that none of the places on ioverlander along the dirt roads are blm land. He said that if you literally go overland, with no roads, several miles east beneath the craggy low mountains it is blm over there. But people go out and shoot and make it inhospitable there as well. Do not invade these peoples neighborhoods, they are having a bad time of it.
Report Check-InStayed here on a weekday. Nice flat open BLM land, plenty of space for RV and cars. Got a quiet and peaceful night of sleep. T-Mobile has 2 bars of 5G signal (but could be inconsistent).
Report Check-Inlots of space out here for the night. perfect for a van or truck. windy at night so maybe not for tents. Close to town and the park. I had three bars of Verizon service and a quiet night.
Report Check-InLove this BLM area. You can def stay right off the gps location at the end of the regular season/ dirt road but if you drive in a minute or two it totally opens up and there’s lots of little spots to stay in. Def. follow directions to stay on regular roads for longer. Stayed here multiple days bc I loved it so much!
Report Check-InThis is a great area, BUT there is a lot of private property. Be careful where you park.
Report Check-Init is a huge flat dirt area, but all the goat head stickers everywhere, hard to enjoy it with my dog
Report Check-InHUGE flat dirt lot. Very level with 2-3 bars ATT. I was the only person here along with some coyotes.
Report Check-Inperfect instructions for minimal dirt road. perfect night to view meteor shower.
Report Check-InWe spent the weekend in this BLM area while visiting Joshua Tree National Park. Lovely place to stay, but there are a few things that are good to know:
1. Lots of roads in the surrounding area are unpaved and in very poor condition. To stay on paved roads as long as possible, be sure to enter the BLM area this way: Use Highway 62, turn off at Sunfair Road and turn right at East Broadway. That way you won't encounter off-road-like conditions until you enter the BLM area.
2. It gets very windy here. Even on days where almost no wind was forecasted, it was bad enough that several campers gave up on sleeping in their tents and instead booked hotels.
3. The area is used for off-road driving, meaning you will hear ATV's of different sorts come and go most of the day and into the late evening. However, it did quiet down enough to get a quiet sleep (except for the wind noise).
4. The area is a dried out lake and it is not exactly comfortable to drive on. You can reduce the shaking of the vehicle by finding a spot for the night as soon as you pass the solar cells rather than continuing further into the area as many do.
Would stay again!
