Description

Real nice "end of road" Place. With luck you can see the snow capped Tolima. We stayed at the little grassy field in front of a big white advertising sign. Almost leveled, place for two 25 foot rigs. There is a wooden house with banjo service, a lot of animals, cows, horses, etc nearby, or around you.
We done a hike to the Hacienda el Rancho, 2' h round trip. Real nice trail goes down the canon Combeima. We returned, but you can go on....
A group was just starting a 4 day trip up to the 5200m Tolima....
We stayed there middle of the Week....nowone was there. Parking fee would be 5000 p. (sign). Totally quiet and nice stay.
The last about 14km of the road from Ipaque to here is not paved, a little bit narrow and stoney, but not really a problem. No 4WD needed!

Closed until March for rain, mudslides. Road is rough

Paking fee is 6000 for 12h
We left the car here during 2 days to go on a hike up to volcano's foot.
First hour is very simple and you can enjoy a wonderful hot spring at el rancho. Several pools and waterfalls, seems free.
After that is a strenuous 6h walk to the first camp named la cueva. Nice views on the volcano when arrived but nothing to see before. Be prepared to a tough hike with a lot of mud...
However it is not the best place to stay overnight (big house in front of the parking), we prefered much more the place few kilometers before named "juntas river"

We liked this place as well. Stayed one night at the same spot. The friendly family that lives next door on the little farm even offered us to camp behind their house to get a nicer view, but the ground was drier at the mentioned place. Very quiet and peaceful at night, exept for some dogs barking. We were lucky to get a nice view of the Tolima in the morning and hiked to the ranch and a little more up. The trail to the ranch is beautyful with a few fun river crossings. Hot springs as well as a huge waterfall at the end. You can also tent camp there. After the ranch it gets pretty steep through the jungle - at this time of the year muddy and slippery. As we turned around at some point, we have no idea how it is further up.
