Something not right?

Description

There are many spots along this road. We were hoping for one further up but it was occupied so we grabbed this open spot. The only negative is the proximity to some power lines. the views into the valley below are great. It can be a bit windy.

We noticed this is a popular area. We stayed on a Sunday and rolled in at 3:30p to grab the last spot. If you are coming in after 4 you may be disappointed.

Great Starlink location, and decent T-Mobile and Verizon.

As mentioned amazing vies, easy access & quiet!

Report Check-In

Heading back to the (south) east coast after a road trip to Tofino BC, I could have dropped down into tornado 🌪 alley but reasoned I-90 and I-94 will avoid most of the severe weather risk and cost me less than 100 miles (see update at bottom). I had already decided to do Glacier so, crossing Montana to take in Theodore Roosevelt National Park was a no-brainer. besides, North Dakota is my 49th state and I'll likely my final one (no interest in driving to or in, Alaska).

so in planning my last leg crossing Montana, I checked iOverlander for my plan A, B and C spots once I got to North Dakota. There were several postings for the grass lands and a few in and around Medora. iOverlander us so useful that way.

anyway, cross the North Dakota line at about 5:00 so I thought I better head up on to the grasslands straight away and not go into Medora to look around. Road up is super easy, at least in dry whether, I could see where that Red Dirt could be a real problem during or after a rain. first two spots were snagged and I could see someone all the way at the top so I grabbed what I could which turned out to be the valley view. I think this spot is connected by a road across the ridge to the second spot. there could be some parking opportunities there.

like everyone who is posted before, beautiful views. I've camped on The Wall in South Dakota, The Rim in Arizona and now the Grasslands in North Dakota. Personally, The Grasslands beat out The Wall by far, but The Rim is my favorite.

Tomorrow is Theodore Roosevelt National Park and then back here for a night before booking home. I hope there's a spot available, it's still the weekend.

UPDATE: no running from weather. see pics. winds were 20+, gusting to 35. Tornado warning issued for my location, large hail possible. We're fine.
