Description

Look out above San Sebastian de Oeste. A pull off with room for tents and still close enough to town. Free. Escape the deafening sounds of roosters and dogs in the mornings.

nice spot for a night, still as described steep climb but totally 2WD in dry conditions. we took a more interesting route towards tequila from here: following the gravel road up top to San Felipe Del Hijar is still 2WD with nice views but slow progress, you will pop out of the mountains at the hot spring region (spots on ioverlander) further north.

Report Check-In

As described, very quiet, with the town roosters and dogs only to be heard in the distance. Nice views. Recommended. Not sure about the alternative road described below, but if you take the road through town it is only recommended for small vehicles (land cruisers etc) or cars with tents. Dirt road up doable with normal car.

Spent one quiet night here at the lookout above town. You can avoid the worst of the narrow streets by taking a left on the “carga pesada” sign on the way into town before the bollards, one tight turn, doable unless you’re a truly big rig. Road is in good condition coming up, was some mud puddles but easy to find space and level out. On the weekend expect ATV traffic, but we weren’t bothered when we were here. Full 4G Telcel connectivity. Small fire pit and wood available at the mirador lookout point. Recommended.

As described. Except...... It should be also stated that this tiny pueblo is not a hidden gem any more. When we arrived 2 big tour buses louded with gringos + number of smaller transit minivans, were there.

So, we made a dash for a Mirador with the plan to wake up early and to see the community next day before the tours start to arrive.

Some parts in the village were tight even for our 15ft camper van. Would not want to be driving there with bigger vehicle.

Mirador has nice view, enough leveled space to confortably park the car, and gives good access to road and track leading to other settlements. We did stay one night. All was well. Roosters helped us to get early start for a walk around the village, 8.30......interesting to see the villagers getting ready for a new day.

Good spot. ATV tours might come by during the day. Can be quite dusty when bikers and cars drive by.

Be sure to eat some guavas from the guava trees. They are yummy.

Full LTE signal but quite slow for some reason.

We stayed two nights. To reach this spot you have to drive through town (narrow cobbled streets, low wires) then up a dirt road (lots of washed out ruts, some deep). Don’t need 4WD but reasonable clearance advised. Go left at the fork just after google says you’ve arrived.
Full LTE with Telcel. Not very flat, but ok. Shady and lovely views.

Camping spot is easily accessible for anything but a big RV. There are several potential spots between this spot and the next town along the gravel road. Yes, the streets in town are narrow, but not a problem for any vehicle other than a big RV. Also, this is a great spot with a nice lookout, but the dogs barking in town all night were still loud up here.

Report Check-In

Maybe accessible with a Jeep/Landrover or a battered car but not anything bigger. Even squeezing our 19ft Class B into town was tricky, and wouldn't recommend it for anyone of a nervous disposition. You can park bigger vehicles just as you come into town and walk a km or so to the center.
