Description

Small lake with dispersed camping around the unpaved road. if the roads are wet it will be difficult to navigate. close to the Salton Sea and Slab City, we spent a very comfortable night here. No pit toilet. From HWY 111 coming from Calipatria, turn Left on Albright Rd, at the 1st stop sign turn Right on Kershaw, turn Left on Titsworth, Turn Right on Smith, turn Right on Williams and take the 1st immediate left and then the 1st immediate right. Will see the old bathrooms and a sign thatvreads "Wildlife Area". Follow the road down to the left to find the closest sites to camp. Google directions will try to take you on Williams right off the bat but Williams is impassable unless you come from Smith rd first. Approximately 7 minutes from Calipatria.l and 10 minutes from Brawley.

very nice place !! you can hear the birds and have a nice view on the lake

Report Check-In

Directions given in other check-in 💯 Be very cautious if it recently rained. It has rough wet areas hard to drive thru without 4x4. Arrived in the dark, so parked for safety by old Pit Bathroom. There are lots of places next to the Lake, if good weather for hard packed dirt drive. Wildlife galore. 50-100 Pelicans in the Lake. Loons Cormorants Coyotes Owls Morning Doves plus One negative, the smell of Cows from the distant farm

Report Check-In

Lovely, quiet lake. lots of Cormorants and at least 9 Pelicans (!). Local fisherman said there's tons of Carp in the lake.

I used Google directions but went past Williams (per camper suggestions) and it readjusted the route to match the recommendations.

Haven't noticed any trash or cow smells. Planning to stay several days.

Update: Been here a week and cow smells come and go. Tons of flies and bees at my spot, so make sure you have screens on your doors and keep an eye on your pets.

Report Check-In

all of the above , tho i think there is a homeless encampment with three tents and one vehicle, hidden behind the trees beside the lake. The lake looks pretty but unuseable except for a canoe might be nice. Farm runoff is sure to be affecting the lake Trash left where tent campers are. and yes in a 10 C morning at 8 am U can smell the cows. good for us for one night. not many birds, a few ducks. wouldn’t come back.

Report Check-In

this is a good place to stay.
don't come in from the west. there is a deep hole filled with dust. not good for driving thru.

Report Check-In

Used to have vault toilets, now the hole in the ground is filled with trash unfortunately. Its a beautiful lake though. Lots of coyotes nearby at night but none bothered us. Dirt road gets really muddy after a rain but still passable without 4x4, at least to the front section of the grounds. Quiet and peaceful for the most part unless there are hunters camping. Lots of space to roam, the dogs loved it here. Really enjoyed the stay.

Report Check-In

Nice spot next to a lake. Be careful of coming in after a rainstorm. Definitely do not follow your google maps and take Titsworth to Smith instead.

Report Check-In

I actually really like this place. sure it smells like cows and it's surrounded by fields there's a pack of coyotes that come surprisingly close, but this place really is a hidden gem. There's a house nearby but a total of two vehicles have driven past me. If you drive on past the flat part at the entrance you go down this dirt road to the left and come across a nice little copse of trees next to the pond. It feels more tucked away.

Report Check-In

Heads up... the entrance from the north feels sketchy. There's some trash and the road gets tight & lumpy. Eventually, you pass a house (still feels sketchy) then you see a park bathroom at Finney Lake (starts feeling less sketchy). Continue south on the east side of Finney Lake. There is a big flat (football field) area next to the lake. Still scrubby but it works. See photos. Have Fun! p.s. Check out CampsiteShare.com

This is literally the ugliest place and landscape I've ever seen. You know what it feels like? Like in the Princess Bride when they go thru the fire swamp. And I totally do expect a 6ft rat to scamper past at any time too.
umm ok so- no one else here it appears, this is a Saturday night. smell not too bad, not too much trash, good cell service for att at least, hard packed sand road is good but visibly soft sand to the left and right so don't get too crazy if your 2wd. God, I'd hate to be stuck here lol.

Nice lake, lost of birds. We were 3 campers. The road was ok but I wouldn’t came here after the rain because it would be very muddy. Don’t take the google route or you will end up in trees and deep dirt. Take the next road Titsworth and then Smith. There is no more pit toilet. No tree is blocking the road anymore.

Pretty alright camping area. It’s a small free little dirt lot with a lake tucked against one edge. It does smell like cow $hit, because the whole zone is surrounded by factory farming. Wasn’t so bad after it cooled down, just turn your fan on so it’s blowing out. I had a peaceful night alone here.

Getting here was slightly rough! Be sure not to take the diagonal dirt road that google suggests, stick to the grid if you’re longer than 20ft

Report Check-In

Seems it is closed right now. Pretty smelly too from the feed lot.

Beautiful lake front camping, though to clarify this is not a campground. Smell from nearby cows was minimal, no flies, beautiful pelicans, absolutely peaceful and quiet. Sunset was incredible. We were not bothered by anyone. We did pick up some trash others had left behind, but unfortunately there is still more spread about. The dirt road continues around the lake so there are several spots to choose from, but I like this location amongst the tall trees due to the sunset view.

3 bars of AT&T 5G(E).

Spent quiet night right after Thanksgiving. Nobody else around. Great cell service on east side of lake. Powdery road would be CC a mess in rain. Would stay again.

Report Check-In

Not a terrible place to boondock for a night. Beautiful lake with lots of wildlife to watch. Right next to a farming community but smell isn't as bad as others have stated. Plenty of space for the dogs to run. We arrived mid morning on a Friday and so far we are the only ones here, probably because it's going to be a warm day. Road around camp would be difficult for 2wd when rainy but our 170 sprinter made it no problem. Area is trashed however. Lots of beer bottles, soda cans and chip bags strewn about. Also looks like there was a fire back here sometime recently. Watch out for fire ants. Would return here for an overnight in cooler weather just for the lake and bird watching alone.

Report Check-In

Fallen tree has been cleared. Difficult to navigate after rain. Peaceful and clean.

Report Check-In

when i was here on the 28th i said everything was fine......that's before the billions of mosquitoes and flies got in, and then there was the smell from the feed lot, that was bad. we left and went to walmart in Brawley.

Report Check-In

just as it is stated, large duck filled lake, lots of salt cedars for shade, a dirt road getting here, short, beautiful. quiet. only ones here.

Report Check-In

In this is a beautiful spot in the middle of a farming community. pit toilets, good internet, and quiet.

Report Check-In

Nice, but only one accessible spot due to a fallen tree across the road leading along the lake to other sites. Trees for shade & very quiet. Only 30 minutes from Slab City.

Report Check-In

This is the only lake access RV site due to fallen tree leading further along lake. Large, open, secluded & shaded. Very quiet & 25 minutes from Slab City.

Report Check-In

A hidden gem. Lots of ducks, geese, swans, and other birds. Bring earplugs because the train sounds its horn about a mile away. We got our 2wd high top Sprinter here. It was a bit muddy in places but no problem on the main track.
