Great place to stay with a panoramic view above the village and the vulcanos. By the red bus stop is a short gravel road to this plateau.
Toller Übernachtungsplatz mit Panoramablick oberhalb des Ortes. Beim roten Bushäuschen geht ein kurzer Schotterweg zum Plateau.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
To get here, take route23, out of the city then take a right just after the brown traffic sign. All Navigation apps send you to a completely wrong place. We came at dark and it took long to find.
As many wildcamp places in SPdA area, the road does not exist on navigation apps. If you go, go before dark and use Google maps satellite view.
Pretty quiet, little traffic and few distant dogs. Amazing stargazing. Spots not really flat but we managed with levellers. 5G signal with Movistar!
!CAUTION! In the morning a woman came and told us that this place was a native cementery. ( at night we could barely see the little amounts of rocks but this is it )
It is our responsibility as travelers to respect the locals and their spaces.
It might be better to ask the people living down the road where to park. It seems that the right side of the dirt road is not part of the cementery.
Great spot close to town. We went up a bit higher and had a great & quiet night. Even the wind quietened down!
Report Check-InWe spent 2 nights here and it was perfect. We've preferred to go 200m towards not to have so much traffic from people coming to enjoy the sunset or the beautiful sky. We did not hear any noise from the road.
Report Check-InAs described - lots of space, no amenities, and exposed to wind (but no wind when we were there). Not hidden from the road, but far enough not to be noticed and the traffic dies down at night so it gets quiet.
Report Check-InWe stayed about a week there with others Overlanders. No facilities but we could make our campsite without any trouble. The carabineros came, we even had a fire and they only said hello and to call them if we had any issue.
Be careful though, do no go there when it's windy. It can be really strong up there.
We stayed here 2 nights in campervan and it was surprisingly quiet, not windy, not cold, we met other overlanders and we were close to every attractions we wanted to visit so it was very nice. The spot is a bit exposed and there is nothing to be hidden but you’re far enough from the road and the town.
Report Check-Inwow great views from here. feelt safe as we weren't the only one camping here.
Report Check-InThe first night we were a bit sceptical about the plateau because it was very windy that night. However, the following days the sand storm was over and it ended up really being the perfect spot. Pretty leveled, lots of space and other overlanders to chit chat with if you want. We stayed here 4 nights.
Report Check-InStayed here few days to visit all attractions in the region. Calm, sometimes windy, very short to Valle de Marte and Luna and to the town.
Report Check-InFor cyclist: wonderful place! It wasn't windy on the night and we could find some spot for tent. Just follow the road and turn left before the drop. On the right there are some even spots.
Views in the evening and morning (sun was heating the tent) are wonderful.
We stayed 3 nights here. a really Nice and quiet place, close to San Pedro. Nice sunset and moonrise. no facilities
Report Check-Ina very nice place and view over the village. At some places the ground allows to put a tent. It's very good accessible from the road. It visible from the village and the road. In the evening some tourists and locals were here to enjoy the sunset but they didn't stay here for a night, only one camper and a car, but the plateau is huge. Some noise from the dogs barking down the hill.
Report Check-Inwe agree it's a very good spot!
easy road, close to town. very good view on town. although it's close it's very quiet.
no shade at all
