A very quiet place to camp. The staff is very friendly. We did the Chimbue Basin hike. It's 7-8h. where we could see a spectacular landscape, women carrying more than 50kg of firewood on their heads and barefoot, and countless rapids and some waterfalls. Our guide was Francis Mucheliwa +265884406058. He lives right next to the Nest Hike. He knows the area, the stories and is very kind and patient. Totally recommended.

We just finished the 3 day hike up to Supitwa with +265 88 422 9904 John Mishon. He is kind and honest and very well liked by all the other guides and porters and hut keepers on the mountain. He has a great sense of humour, enough patience, is always calm and nothing is ever a problem. He has stopped counting the amount of times he has hiked the mountain. Use him if you want a good experience.

5 USD (10.000 K) pppn

There is some lawn in front of the house where you could fit four camper cars.

Hot shower, no WiFi, food available.

You can leave your car for 4.000 K per day. They rent backpacks, cooking gear etc.

Friendly owner.

I could do some laundry and hang it in the back of the house.

Perfect place to stay if you want to go for a hike in Mulanje mountains. We camped in our 4x4 in Ruth’s garden with shared outdoor area, clean ablutions and a backyard to do laundry. Ruth is very nice and lovely to chat with. We had a perfect guide for a 4 days hike: Arnold, he speaks very good English, has studied tourism and knows much about the area. His number is: +265 99 397 1104

we stayed 2 nights a this nice and clean place. Here starts the hikes at Mount Mulanje. Ruth is a pleasent and cheerful person and we liked to stay at this small place . Francis, the guide living next door took us to the waterfall and we can recommend him very much. His number is +265884406058 😊.

Nice place to start your hike to the Mulanje Mountains. You can camp here for 5000 mkw pp, they also offer food (cheap), you can leave your car here for 2000mkw per night. And it is at the start of the trail to the top. If you need a guide, I can recommend Wills Mishioni, a certified guide, and if you need a porter then take Blesng. For two days we payed $90. Contactdetails mobile: +265 884 73 48 45. After the hike he also showed us his house and we also went to the local market. The day before you hike, you can do shoppings together, so you can eat together, if you like to learn the locals. The Mulanje Mountains are really beuatiful place, and is one of beauties of Malawi.

Good place to stop-over pre-hike, but I wouldn’t stay here for anything more than that. Small garden (not very flat) out the front which you camp in. Only really space for 2 overland vehicles but they allow up to 4.
Key thing - ask Ruth to shut the gate as soon as you get there to stop the guides hassling you, tell them you already have a guide.
5k MK PP Pn.
You are obliged to get a guide, completely unnecessary - you’re basically paying a ‘not being hassled’ tax. You are, however, helping out the local economy and our guide was very friendly and nice not to have to think. John Mission (+265 88 422 9904) - $25 all in for 3 people.

We stayed a day before and after the climb of Sipitwa and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and Ruth's fine services.

As recommended before guide Hassan proved to be a great asset while climbing the unexpectedly steep and rocky mountain. Patiently and skillfully he assisted my fear of height affected partner to the top (and equally scary down to the Hikers Nest). We paid him $25 per day as he also is a great cook and carried part of our luggage as well.

Report Check-In

It was very convenient to stay the night there before the hike, Ruth can help you with everything (even with money exchange). We parked our camper at her place while hiking for 2000k per day.

Recommended guide- Hassan: a young and kind guide. He adjusted to our pace, assisted whenever needed (he can arrange for additional amenities like a chef/porter), And respected our space as a couple, a rare trait in Africa!
He made us a fair price, we paid him $ 15 per day:) His number: +265 881 504 345

Only one big rig fits in (or two smaller vehicle). Thus recommendation to contact Ruth (owner) ahead: Whatsup +265 888 51 8881 or +265 887 56 3417). This place seems to be frequented a lot by climbers. A Group of four International climbers had been staying for two weeks in dorms. Guesthouse has its own minibus in order to take guests up the mountains if requested. We did a casual hike to the waterfalls (1.5 hours up the hill; 1 hours down again) which we liked verymuch; you can directly start from Hikers' Nest. Paid K 4,000 per person for camping. Restaurant serves food (did not try) and drinks. Paid rather expensive (for this type of place) K 3,000 for one Castle Lite beer.

Nice simple place; we just camped in our roof top. Only really room for 2 cars to camp. We didn’t check the rooms out. 4000mkw to camp

A great option just before the mulanje entrance gate. Ruth is lovely and very helpful. You can camp in the parking area which is grassy or there are also dorms and rooms. Camping 4000pppn. Ruth made us breakfast the next day before our hike which was great coffee and toast, spreads, and a delicious omlette (11,000 for 2). They can arrange a guide for you but we had already pre arranged. We also stored our car here for free while we hiked. No wifi. Clean ablutions and had a nice hot shower when we were there, plus a sink to do dishes etc.

Report Check-In

they have a ground before the house for camping. you use the facilites from the lodge/hostel. Ruth the owner can easily arrange you a nice guide for hiking in the mulanje mountains. it was so easy. we arrived nearly in the dark and managed to start the hike in the next morning. price was 8000 Kw. for 2 and we could park the there for three nights while we hiked.

There are cheap rooms in the backyard for 20.500 MKW for 3 people. The staff is very nice and they prepared the braii coal for us.

Lovely place to stay. Camping in fritters garden or cheap basic rooms with mosquitoe net.. Ruth is very friendly and trustable and can help you with finding guides especially as there are a few unscrupulous guides approaching you in the street. She can organise trips out and local transport. High recommended.

This is a nice site you can park right by the buildings. The rest is like already described.

Report Check-In

Camping in the yard of the property (price 3000mk pppn), rooms rather expensive (around 30000-35000mk), food quite expensive as well comparing to other campsites in Malawi (breakfast 4.500mk, mains 4.000-6.000mk) and not so good - actually we ate the worst chicken curry ever here. We could leave our car for free in the parking while we were in the mountains what was nice. Not many options to stay in the neighbourhood so recommended for the night before start the hike.

Report Check-In

Great place too stay. Ruth the owner is very helpful and welcoming. Info all the same as before. We paid 3500 MK

Camped in our car in the carpark, 3,000pppn. Cold shower although after our hike they let us use the hot shower in one of the rooms.
Booked our hike/guide through the hostel, they let us leave our car for free while we were gone.

Guide $25 a day per group.
3 day hike with great views from the summit at 3000m.
One off park entry fee is 1,000 pp
Hut fee 1,000 pppn

We carried our own bags and food but you can pay for a Porter, I think it's $20 per day.
Hut has a fire that you can cook on and both huts have drinking water so you can fill up.

Camping in small parking area in front of establishment. Only room for 2 cars with roof tents. Gated and secure. We took a Room which was very nice, clean, good shower and modern toilet. Nice owners. Our room 25000 Mkw per night (sleeps 3 people) but cheaper rooms available too. TV in lounge/bar can be used by all. Wifi is available but not working when we were there. Airtel no 3G and 2G poor. Convenient location to walk up to Falls (90mins) or base for 3 day hike to mountains. Frequent power cuts when we were there but dinner was nice (good sized portions) and cooked breakfast is available at extra cost. Outside covered area but no braais or fire pits etc
