Description

Parking at the entrance of the park. Check-in with the rangers. Toilets are clean and open all night. From the turnoff from the highway you'll have to drive up a bumpy rather narrow road with not much room to manoever. Wide vehicles better watch out for branches. Great possibilities to hike on clearly marked trails. Free parking and free entrance. There is a tent camping area about 100 meters from the parking lot that is not accessible by vehicle. Pets are not allowed in the park, but no problem in the parking lot.
you can climb Pasochoa from here, however it's a 12k, 1200m climb, one way!
H+ reception with Movistar. Free (National Park)

The entrance closes at 3pm. But they let us camp. Nice place but facilities very dirty.

IMPORTANT! Drive to this coordinates: S 0.38736 W 78.51138. It's only 100 m from the E20/E35. Take the road to the right from the church. It's bumpy but no problem for any car!

When you love your 2x4 RV you should think about driving to this place. We did it. It's possible but certainly not good for your vehicle. The jungle-walks are nice.

Great place, we spent the night here in our camper van FIRPO, at the parking lot, so peaceful and great trails to walk around, friendly park rangers, we connected our camper to an electrical outlet outside of one of the buildings, road is doable, slowly but we made it without any problems, we did not use toilets nor other facilities so we can't coment on that.

dogs on parking lot are welcome, but not on trails!
you can climb pasochoa from here, however it's a 12k, 1200m climb (one way).
plenty of other trails available.

Still free! The parking area is huge but not level at all, we used all our levelers and were still at an angle. The bathrooms are really dirty and the toilet I used wouldn’t flush, no one is doing any cleaning or maintenance around here. The first night there was no electricity and the second day when we arrived back from our hike and the day we left there was no water. So you can’t depend on any infrastructure.
We did the 8 hour round trip hike to La Pared, great views of the Pasochoa peaks from there. Very steep hike!

we're not sure how this last comment came to be. The road is cobblestone and a bit bumpy, but perfectly doable if you go slow. Three schoolbusses full of kids also made it. We had exactly one branch in our way and that was easily dealt with, even without a machete☺

Note: google maps indicated a wrong/non existent route. Instead we followed the sign to the reserve standing next to the road on the left just after Amaguana (coming from the east). That took us maybe 20 min going slow.

Report Check-In

The road is in very bad condition at the moment. After spending an hour cutting away low branches with our machete we had to turn back anyway because our clearance wasn't high enough. Too bad!

il faut arriver avant 17h, heure de fermeture.
Le gardien n'a pas voulu nous laisser entrer!
Nous avons dormi devant la grille...

Still free. New big, paved parking lot to stay, not very levelled. Partly very bumpy cubblestone road! Nice trails to walk. Very quiet at night.

You can camp on a paved place. The Trails are nice. The Mayguayacu Trail is easy and can de done without a guide.

Free. Clean bathrooms, friendly rangers, could have plugged into electricity if we had a longer cord. Note you can no longer summit Pasochoa from this entrance due to trail erosion.

Report Check-In

Free and very quiet. Bathrooms near the tent camping are open. Parking in front not level but nice.

Parking at the entrance of the park. Check-in with the rangers. Toilets are clean and open all night. Right now they're remodelling the big parking lot but there is still room for one or two campers. From the turnoff from the highway you'll have to drive up a bumpy rather narrow road with not much room to manoever. Wide vehicules better watch out for branches. Great possibilities to hike on clearly marked trails. Free parking and free entrance. There is a tent camping area about 100 meters from the parking lot that is not accesible by vehicule. Pets are not allowed in the park, but we don't know about the parking lot.

Report Check-In

Both the entrance to the park as well as camping are free. We camped in the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center with stunning views of the valley of Quito. Clean toilets. Great hiking trails in the park.
