Something not right?

Description

Truly beautiful setting. Camping on a grass patch by a stream fair enough distance from civilization to feel private. Asked several locals all of whom said we were welcome to camp. About a mile before the waypoint, coming from Leymebamba, take the dirt road to the left by some houses, follow it for about a mile until you see a shallow river crossing on your right, before the bridge, take the river crossing and camp anywhere you like.

An amazing spot, we crossed two streams to find a grassy ledge. Water clear and good for cooking. Unfortunately someone has left a poo and some toilet paper - a reminder to responsible campers to bury your poop and take your TP with you it does not biodegrade and it’s filthy!

Wonderful surprise! Quiet, peaceful stream side camping. We were able to ride our bikes thru the rocky stream and camp on a patch of grass across from it.

ça passe tranquille avec un camping-car de 6m

In february, the water is over 1 feet deep and very muddy! We cannot see the bottom so we cant know if it gets deeper in the middle. Normally I would waddle in to see if the car can make it, but its 10C right now so I just decided to not cross. The other side does seem nicer, but it doesn't seem worth the risk.

Beautiful spot. One of our best. It was spring at daytime but winter at night (below zero cantigrade). There is cattle farm in the valley and the shepherds transfers milk everyday (around noon) by 4 or 5 horses and they return in an hour. Their path cross the campspot and the horses always run very fast. They know their path crossing the stream so they don't wait the shepherd. They don't stop if the gate to meadow is open. Be careful if you have kids or pets playing on their way. They run with 4 or 5 dogs also. The dogs were friendly.

Indeed a very pretty spot, either side of the river!

Given last checkin, we didn't bother going further than the soccer field and parked for the night behind the shelter shed and next to the irrigation headworks. People in nearby house said it was OK

Very nice place. You MUST cross the stream. A little bit uneven but you find two nice places for a overlandencar. No problems with anyone. Folks on the beginning of the dirtroad advised us to go to the place. Quit and very beautifull.

Report Check-In

We didn't cross the stream because the other side seemed too unlevel and the grassy area couldn't be accessed (all fenced). During the night, two men approached and identified themselves as "seguridad campesina" (rural security), which are unofficial self organized groups that guard areas where the police doesn't reach. They seemed high on drugs and could barely talk. We felt unsafe because of their presence, but nothing actually happened.

A beautiful, peaceful place to camp. Even in rainy season, we had no problem crossing the stream and we camped on the river rocks. We didn't ask the locals if we could camp but they all waved and seemed perfectly happy to let us camp there.
