United States
A good amount of free campsites on a lake in TN. Concrete slabs for your tent and fire rings, but no bathrooms, grills, water, or tables. Beautiful and quiet in the non summer months. Can stay 14 days with no trouble, but I've heard of other campers staying longer. There aren't many free campgrounds in Tennessee so this is a real gem, be nice to it. Leave no trace.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Is closed/gate barred. I surmise it closes in November. However the other site at end of Old Rhea Springs Rd is still open. Pity as it’s not quite as nice as these sites
Report Check-InLots of campsites close together, almost all with their own water access. I was there on the Thursday after July 4th and it was pretty packed. Luckily found a nice and mostly private spot at the lollipop/end of the road. While it was crowded and we could hear people setting off fireworks, no one was too rowdy and everyone kept to themselves.
Keep in mind some of the spots are very close to the water and looked on the verge of flooding after another heavy rain.
Port-a-potties on site but no potable water that I noticed. Decent Verizon signal.
Public campground with plenty of sites throughout. Had one site with 4 rigs in it with no problem. Spots to fit full size rv’s or plenty of rigs
Report Check-InI've read reviews elsewhere of this camping area getting crowded and rowdy. We went during a relatively chilly weekend in early April and had no trouble finding a spot. It was quiet, private, and beautiful. I can see however how that may be very different during warmer months.
The campground is very easily accessible and has no facilities other than garbage bins. There is no gate.
Report Check-InNice campground, if you can get a good spot. Kind of in the boonies I stayed with a dog and friend so wasn’t that worried. Lots of trash ie broken bottles, cigarette butts. Regardless of that we were still able to find a nice spot and camp relatively undistubed
Report Check-InVery nice Place! We stayed two Nights! We cleaned a little Bit, but it was not bad at all! 4 other‘s stayed here too! Sheriff came twice! We feel save!
Report Check-InNice place on the lake to camp. Lots of trash, so pick up after yourselves! The night we stayed was very crowded, but free is nice!
Report Check-In***FREE*** lake-side beautiful campsites. Fire rings and concrete pads that fit my FJ perfectly to level us out. I have no idea how the only amenity here is trash cans and people still leave their trash??? DONT BE THAT GUY!
Report Check-InGreat spot, right on the lake, probably 30 or so spots total, there is a dumpster here but no other amenities
Been here for about 3 days and only seen a handful of other campers
There is another free TVA campground across the lake called "rhea springs recreational area" which is also free, it has some more amenities but is only open April-Oct it seems
Report Check-InIt's a beautiful spot, but unfortunately located within 5 miles of a nuclear power plant...
