Description

Shady sites in a coniferous forest with palapas, benches and tables, and a fireplace (most of them for tent camping only). It's not possible anymore to camp at the river (see 'Río Agua Caliente). From the campground it's about three kilometers to the point where the road meets the hot river (no pets allowed there); from there you cannot drive any further. There's also a balneario with thermal water close by. MEX$ 50 pppn.

100 p a night (50 pp) it’s a really nice national park to stay a night or two.

Gets busy at the weekend but it wasn’t overly noisy during our stay.

The hot river / pools are 4km away …. Can’t take pets though.

We would certainly use again

Report Check-In

Great place to rest after Guadalajara, so much peace here (during the week) we payed 50 pesos pp to sleep here. Which is a bit much as there are no facilities only the grill and tables. Toilets opened only Saturday, we arriver on a Friday here.

Still worth the stop for us, very peaceful.

Report Check-In

I was at this place and everything is the same.

Report Check-In

Very good spot, large area with lot of space.
Not a lot of water for the toilets this time of year

Report Check-In

Nice rural Campground in a Pine forest. In weekends a lot of people here for tenting, BBQ ...
Otherwise very quit. Still 50PPN

Report Check-In

Nice Campground. 50 pesos for a night. If you wanna go to the hot springs, it’s 30 pesos each. No dogs are allowed at the hot springs and indeed helmets when biking.

Report Check-In

50pp/night. Kids were free. Stayed for a weekend and had a great time. Not too crowded and pretty quiet Friday night, but Saturday brought out the drunk karaoke crowds, which I thought was most amusing than annoying. The woods are very peaceful and the rio caliente was very hot! The river is not too bad of a walk, but easy to get a ride from locals and/or cops, as we did. My kids loved the playground. Bathrooms by the campsites were locked and ones by the entrance were bucket flush toilets with no toilet seats.

Report Check-In

Nice area, crowded on weekends, will get loud. They don’t let you drive to the hot river by bicycle unless you have a helmet… Not perfect for big rigs but doable (only allowed road in for trucks is Avenida de Carril).

Report Check-In

It’s a Wednesday and there are only two of us here: a family from France in their van, and us in ours. We’re just here for the day. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are locked. We drove through town and the road almost rattled our teeth out, but once we left the town, the road was good. Glad we persevered. It’s quiet

Report Check-In

We arrived on Sunday and there were many families there. During the week there is almost nothing going on and it is quiet. You can hike or drive to the hot river (Rio caliente about 3 km) to swim there. There is also the Tinajitas thermal bath in the park, just over 1 km away (entrance 140 pesos/adult and 70 pesos/child. We stayed 2 nights and paid 50 pesos/person/night for the entrance to the park.

Report Check-In

Huge forest area >> lots of palapas and calm corners to get lost
Toilet/shower next to the main road
Weekend busy but still good separated
Love it- base camp to the city

Report Check-In

Nice campground but the hot river was too hot for us in June. Probably better in the winter or late evenings. They would not let us bring our dog to the river, which seemed kinda silly since there are a ton of stray dogs there and many at the river as well. Overall a nice place to stop for a few nights.

Report Check-In

Nice place to sleep in between Tequila & Guadalajara. We were the only one here with another German couple and we stayed for 4 nights. Saw another van that came for one night only.

Super calm at night and also much colder than during the day which makes it perfect to sleep well :)

Report Check-In

Huge camping area, lots of pine trees for shade but also sun and clear sky if you wish. Some sap from the trees.

Popular place with the locals with almost constant traffic throughout the day and even in the early hours of the night. Quiet during the night.

In May, it was warm during the day but very pleasant at night.

During the week the toilets and showers are closed but you can ask at the entry gate to open them. But there is trash and a water spigot where you can connect your own hose. Water is near the showers in a separate enclosed part.

Almost constant police presence and there is a person at the entry gate throughout the night.

Overall, safe, no issues and totally worth the money.

Report Check-In

Great place. We felt safe and had a very quiet night. The river is pretty hot but beautiful. Not many people during the week.

Report Check-In

Quick update, there are no showers when we asked.

Report Check-In

As described. Still 50 pesos pppn. Very nice and quiet.

Report Check-In

Perfect peaceful campsite in the forest for 50peso/person/night with a bonus of the hot spring river to soak in about 3.5km down the road (30peso/person). Stayed last year and liked it so much we made it one of our stops this year too!

Report Check-In

Our favorite camp spot in Mexico so far. The price is still 50 Pesos per person. We stayed during the week (toilets are closed). The area is huge, therefore there is plenty of room for everyone. I will add a picture of our hike as well. We made a nice 7km loop on the left side of the main road.

Report Check-In

Amazing quiet place. We were very tired and decided to Stop here.
Incredible quiet night in a very nice forest.

Report Check-In

Quiet spot lot of space, 50mx / person,
Dirty road in the village before campground.
Water available with good pressure

Report Check-In

Very nice and quiet campground (expect on the weekend). Wanted to stay 1 night, we stayed 3 nights ;)
The road is doable for any kind of rig. We paid 50 pesos per night and 30 pesos per person for the hot river which is very hot.
There are some toilets available for 5 pesos and we ask the guard if we could fill up our water tank with his hose at the gate and he was ok to do it for free :)

3 bars of 3G to 1 bar of 4G depending where you stay.

So beautiful. Just like everyone says. You can rent a grill for the bbq from the gate house. We arrived on a Sunday so busy but families just enjoying nature. Plenty of kids riding around on horses. Quiet night and morning.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

amazing camp ground. 50 pesos fee for a van. camping tables and bbq pits, restrooms and trash cans. some palapas too. and, you can go hiking to the Rio Caliente Cascadas and hot springs. trail open 8am to 4 pm. apparently super busy on weekends

Report Check-In

Nice place to stop for the night near Guadalajara.

We parked next to a nice palapa with a table and bbq grill. There is trash near the camping area, but the bathrooms are a bit of a trek depending on where you park. The nearest bathroom to our site was next to the ticket booth - we parked to the left (maybe a couple hundred meters in) just after you enter the park.

The drive to the river is a little lengthy - about half is on dirt. You’ll pass through one gate / guard about 2-3 km before the river. To the left is the access through the park / to the right is a privately owned campground. The guard at this spot will basically tell you that there’s no drinking, camping, etc. at the river and his gate closes at 5:30 pm (at least that was the time on the day we visited). Just before the river you’ll see another guard booth where you’ll be asked to pay $20/person to park/access the river.

During our short stay we saw people hiking / riding horses / and mountain biking - so if you’re into those things (or have bikes) this might be a really nice place to stay for a few days.

After 3-4 months camping throughout Mexico it seemed like we found a place where we’d sleep through the night without constant barking… this was not the case. It’s not as bad as many other places but there are a few dogs that roam the campground area who barked here and there through the night.

Report Check-In

here for the 2nd time. still same price 100 p.2p. and quiet. Some daypeople and locals who let the dog out. No other campers. Police checks the place regularly

Report Check-In

100p for two people in a van. Came on a Saturday and it is mostly families tent camping. Very quiet with lots of spots that have picnic tables. Great stop before heading to our next destination.

Report Check-In

Chill, quiet spot for a night before heading in to Guadalajara. Visited the hot river which was warmer than expected. Lots of folks with kids at the river but we were able to find an empty section. Camping was 100 pesos for two of us for a night and the hot river was 20 pesos per person.

Report Check-In

great place. Got there late, just before sunset. Totally quiet, only us. Bumpy ride to the hot river but so relaxing and hot

Report Check-In

A nice spot to camp! But you need to be fully self contained; restrooms are CLOSED through the week and open on weekends only! Besides this it's a peaceful, quiet and safe site close to Guadalajara and Tequila. And: don't miss to visit the hot river!

Report Check-In

As described 100 pesos for two to camp in our Promaster van. The walk to the River is easy, but the gates to the river do close at 6. Peaceful nights sleep.

Report Check-In

As described by others. Nice trees, cement picnic tables, high local police presence. 100pesos to camp for two. I have 4 bars of Telcel and there is wifi near the gate but it is secured and we never bothered to ask for the password. We had planned to swim in the river but there was a forest fire last.week and the area is closed. Being that it is Semana Santa we didn't even try the balenaro.

Report Check-In

Great spot for a couple nights. I parked further from the entry but if you don’t have a toilet I’d suggest within 100 meters. The security only comes within that area as well during the night. I was fine, traveling solo. Two bars of Telcel

Report Check-In

Buen lugar para acampar, justo antes de la entrada a río caliente, se tiene buena señal de móvil. No vayan al balneario, es una basura, está hecho para niñxs, música fuerte y alcohol. Además que cobran $120 por persona.

Report Check-In

like others said this is a cool spot, but is a drive to the hot springs, which are way too hot too bathe!! but is a great hike down the river I see at least 5 springs..but wow!! u ll have to cross in the hotbwater sometimes! great day out. but Rio Agua caliente on the other post is cooler water n let u camp next to it.was there 2 nights n will go back although no TELCEL 3g there!!

Report Check-In

Perfect spot to stay for a night. Friendly people. Toilets stay open 24h. Guard is at the gate. You can park in the whole bosque. We had the place for ourselves. Certainly go to the Rio caliente, it s a great place! Especially in the morning when you see the hot water evaporating in the idyllic environment. Not possible to camp at the Rio, they close the gate at 17 o clock.

Report Check-In

Quiet, Safe, cheap. Loved it.

Stayed one night and it was great. Firewood offered and cool breeze at night

No bathrooms (at least near our camping spot) but still 10/10

Report Check-In

So nice to not be boiling! only came here as it was just dark and we needed somewhere before the pemex ( and traffic), so glad we did. huge site all to ourselves, toilets, cold showers, free firewood. 50 pesos per person. would be good for tents too. quiet, cool, feels safe.

Report Check-In

Paid 50peso each per night. Large open area with tall trees spread out everywhere for some shade. 3 large palapas with charcoal bbq. A large washroom and shower building that the guy at the gate came to unlock for us. We were the only ones here. The guy at the gate was super nice and even brought some firewood and a jug of diesel incase we couldn’t get it going. Close to the highway, you just have to drive through a little town to get to it.
Nice quite spot, will check out the hot springs in the morning

Report Check-In

Still a great peaceful spot at 50pesos pp. Could get busy and noisy at weekends. Hot springs/river is easy to find, just 3 km further down the track, sign posted 'Rio Caliente'. Separate entry added for these.

Report Check-In

clean, quiet, still 50p per person for an overnight stay. Couldn't find the hot springs river or weren't allowed into it? Drove to where we thought it was and the guy didn't let us pass...we don't know enough Spanish to fully understand what was up. Anyways it was a nice place to pass a night.

Report Check-In

This place was amazing. We stayed two nights but could have stayed much longer. You pay 50 per person to get into the campsite (one time payment as long as you don’t leave the main entrance) then 20 per person to access the hot springs river each day you want to enter (closes at 6pm). The campsite is so relaxing and the river is unreal. You literally feel like you’re sitting in a hot tub. If you walk downstream about 5 minutes the water gets crazy hot. Like you can’t even sit in it. But just before this at the base of the two small waterfalls is a perfect hot tub temperature.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay for 50pp. Bathrooms were fine running water not the nicest but no dramas and had a quiet night's sleep. Felt safe

Report Check-In

Great campground in pine forest not far from hot springs.
Picnic tables, bbq, bathrooms etc.
50 pesos pp/night!
Little tienda down the road for beer, ice and basic stuff!

Smart formal camp site in pine forest with tables and bbq pits and pit toilets. These were locked when we were here and we were the only ones here. 50 peso per person. Going to check the hot spring letter.

As described.
The restrooms were either closed, or in a bad shape, but on the other hand we had a really quiet night under the trees.
50 pesos per person.
