MODERATOPR NOTE: Reservation required!
Road was recently redone. Dirt/gravel road accessible with any rig. Now requires a reservation via recreation.gov and was full when we drove through.
The Fee is 11 $. Great view to San Luis valley and overlook to great sand dunes and sangre de cristo mtns. waterfall nearby.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
online reservations indicated one spot free which I took. maybe 1/2 occupied. much quiter than sand dunes nation park up the road. must reserver & pay online :(
Report Check-InEasy to find, very nice paved road to the top. Vault toilets were clean. When we got here, we were the only occupants but someone else arrived overnight. Make sure you reserve online in advance. There's cell service in the valley below as well as the campground. The views are incredible. It's so quiet!
Report Check-In19$+ tax to reserve online. You can make the reservation day of from the campsite. 2-3 bars Verizon. There was no one else here last night. Cool campground. Fun & quick hike.
Report Check-InAs described, a great spot to stay with drop loos and bins. Great view!
Report Check-InAs described. The falls hike is easy and worth it. Great sunsets.
Report Check-InNice and basic BLM campground. Reserve online. Campground host here in warmer months and will check you in. This is the correct location of this camp. The other entry nearby is for this camp and wrong location. Careful not to get confused thinking there are two camps, there are not just this one.
Report Check-InThis was beautiful spot with an amazing view of valley. It was quite a climb on windy roads but it was paved. Had to book online. Would for sure stay again!
Report Check-InReservations only online and in advance. Useless! I pulled up anyway since this is pretty far from anywhere else. Too tired to look further.
Incredible views. No host? No water. Silent and beautiful spot.
Nice, taken-care-of campsites. Easy to access, lots of open spaces in mid-late may. Great views. Picnic table and bear can at each site plus a fire pit with a grill grate
Report Check-InThe road has been improved. Beautiful spot. Looks like you must reserve on Rec.gov which costs an additional $8 for the online reservation. We had already done that and it was worth it to us to make sure we got a site before driving up the road. We were able to enjoy a day at the Sand Dunes where the campground was full and know that we had a nice spot for the night. Worth it!
Report Check-InThe road has recently been done and is your average dirt/gravel road now easily accessible by any car or rig. However campground is now a reservation only ground for recreation.Gov and was full when we drove through at 4 on a Sunday
Report Check-InAbout 8 miles from Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Road to access campground was recently resurfaced. Access is about 3 miles up hill gravel road. Separate Sites for Tents and RVs. Good cell service on site.
Report Check-InAmazing spot- definitely worth visiting during the warmer months but also a good spot if you need a place to camp in January
Report Check-InAmazing views at night can see Alamosa and your at the at trail head to mt Blanca. Open year round. Bathrooms. No running water though. Make sure to bring water with you. Visiting sand dunes in January and this is the closest to great sand dunes for tent/ car camping during winter month. Excited for daytime views.
Report Check-InThey are currently working on the road up to the campground so any vehicle can make it up easy. Got in late but excited for daytime views as you are high in elevation and can see most of of the valley. Can reserve camping spots by phone. Tip for winter bring some hand warmers.
Report Check-InAccess road is still under construction but in good condition. Sites look like they now require a reservation at Recreation.gov
Report Check-InCampground with maybe 25 spots. There is an RV loop and a campground loop. Beautiful views from up here. Waterfall hike is about 1 mile round trip. It looks like they are working on the road! Seemed that they evened it out and removed stones already. The drive up here was not too bad. There were some rougher spots, but it will get better any day now! Definitely worth it.

Report Check-InGreat view, but the road up is NOT worth it. 3.5 miles of bumpy rock road, no, not gravel, rocks. we have 34.5 tires and a great 4x4 suspension and it was a dreadful 15 minutes. we were able to get theast campsite... if we wouldn't have, I cant imagine going right back down.. the road was so bad, we offered the guy who got in after us to stay at our camp so he wouldn't have to drive back down until morning. We stayed in the area last year at blm down the road. stay there and avoid the road... but you don't get the view from the mountain top.
Report Check-InThe road up is no joke! Just take it slow and steady. Pulled my teardrop up there in 2wd the whole way though - luckily the host had a spot for us. Such a great spot the night before heading to the dunes. Will be back.
Report Check-InBeautiful campsite near Sand Dunes NP. The road to get up to it is EXTREMELY rough. We got in around 7 and everything was full but parked overnight in the picnic day area—a couple of tents set up there since the grounds aren’t monitored
Report Check-InVERY rough road (2.8 miles) getting to it. Did it in our Sprinter 144” 2WD with BFG KO2s, but slowly. Nice BLM CG with a couple vault toilets and camp host on site. No potable water available so pack it. $11/night exact cash or check for tent or RV site with fire ring and bear locker. Great, little rocky hike to Zapata Falls at the base of the CG.
Report Check-Inwe enjoyed this spotn although the Memorial Day weekend crowd was intense. Campsite host was accomodating, and there were toilets and a place to throw out trash. Great stargazing at night, beautiful sunset.
Report Check-Insite was beautiful in the snow, had a 2 door sedan pass me up in my 4x4 expedition on the way up, road is rough, but not impassable.
Report Check-InExpect to need a high clearance 4x4 to get to the campgrounds in winter. But our Tacoma breezed through it. Camp host is everything you want in a host, very nice and friendly but let’s you have your peace. Beautiful views at all sites
Report Check-InBeautiful campsite at the end of a dirt road amongst dispersed pine trees, overlooking a stunning landscape. No water up here. Phone connection. 11$ self check in.
Report Check-InThis is someone's idea of a joke! This is where old mobile home go to die! After you drive by highway 24 and see this is NO place you what to be try this place it's very close...
