Description

Free BLM campground in the shadow of Steens Mountain, beside Mann Lake. Two main camping areas on either side of the lake, with pit toilets. With low lake levels it is also possible to camp beside the water. Very open and exposed, would be hot in the summer and potentially windy.

Latest Check-Ins

I’ll start by saying that we felt SO LUCKY to find this place. Our own little lake because nobody else was camping there. We camped on the west side of the lake near the very clean pit toilet. This is an important detail. At about midnight, we found out why nobody else was camping there. The wind started blowing 50 mph gusts, forcing us to break camp. We have a heavy truck bed mattress, which was a good thing, because we spent the rest of the night sleeping in that very clean pit toilet. So my review of the camp spot is a 3/5 (beautiful and quiet), but a 5/5 for the pit toilet.

Report Check-In

Open and windy with beautiful views. We stayed at the camp on the west side.

Report Check-In

as of this date, the lake is full. Vast open area with magnificent views. Two very clean pit toilets. Campsites are pretty much where you want them to be but there are some commonly used sites with picnic tables and fire pits. Free range. Cows here and there.

Report Check-In

Dry lake bed. We headed to the West side of the lake to avoid as much of the wind as we could. There are brand new fire pits and picnic benches. You can camp anywhere However. Great spot no one around.

Report Check-In

Very scenic camping area below the steep eastern escarpment of Steens Mountain. Two broad camping areas on either side of the lake, though we camped closer to shore on what used to be the lake bed (the lake is shrinking after a series of dry years). No cover so not a good choice if windy. Still cold mid-April, 25ºF in the morning. Only sounds were the occasional moo from the local cattle.

Report Check-In

High desert lake sits below Steens Mountain Escarpment. Great views! No shade. Pit toilets, fire rings the rest is up to you.

Report Check-In

Straight forward BLM site. No frills, but spectacular views of eastern escarpment of Steens Mountain.

Report Check-In

Nice Area - but no shade - hot during summer! Good for a night.
