Description

Nice campspot in the dunes only a few hundred meter away from town. We camped here a few nights. Sometimes people drive or walk on the beach. Not much traffic. You can enter the spot from the paved road with a sand shortcut, from the dirt road that starts in town where all the boats are or you can just drive on the beach. Very quiet. 4wd recommend for beach driving and the spot itself is deep sand.

There is also a road with a few pull-outs just above the sand. Hard-packed dirt.

Runs most of the length of the beach.

Fantastic location.

Report Check-In

this is fantastic if you like some solitude and privacy.

The sand is deep so careful where you go with your 2WD. I did fine with my 98 Ford Taurus, but I am very watchful.

the waves are great for boogie boarding but break too close to the beach for surfing (although, since I'm a beginner, I used the beach breaks to practice just standing up).

it gets windy during the day, which is perfect for the heat but requires that you keep your stuff tied up to prevent any small items from flying off and becoming litter.

there's a shortcut from the main highway down a steep hill (I did it regularly in my 98 Taurus - but slowly and carefully). there's also a nice flat access path from the dirt road parallel to the highway (turn left from the highway right before the town - just before the km1 marker - and then take a left on the dirt road hugging the hills once you see the pangas on the beach).

IMPORTANT: pay attention to the tides and the moon. at full moon, the tides come in and wet the entire beach and create a puddle at the access path. unless you're good for wet sand, this is no joke (see photos). I got lucky and was around the car so managed to dodge getting stuck by one wave (and, it's not even the full moon). it's very deceptive. put your tent among the dunes on high ground. I parked my car near the main dirt road near the hills after unloading everything I needed for camp.

this place is a gem. take precautions and you'll always come back. I much prefer it to the paid site in town.

Great spot exactly as described.
We wrote a bigger description on the other spot just down the beach but these are basically all the same areas.

Report Check-In

Just as described. We camped in the dunes just beyond the beach to be out of high tide. Quiet and very beautiful. Great white noise! It looks like there are a few potential turn-offs along the road from town where the fishing boats are.
