PA forest service site. Ring and table 100% free just need to call or email for a free permit 570-895-4001. The PA Delaware State forest adminsters it and several others in the area
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Awesome spot! However, you do need to call and reserve the spot with the DCNR and the permit costs $21 for out of state and $16.50 for in state (per night). Great cell service with both Verizon and AT&T.
Report Check-InWe found this place on overlander and tried to call the number multiple times. It seems that is the trend of getting no answers so we stayed anyways. At 12:15am I woke up to see 2 big trucks blocking us in to our spot with high beams on us and head lamps looking into our van. One man waved at me through our window while I tried to put my clothes on. Very scary to be woken up to this. I get out and they of course ask if we reserved this spot or not. I said we tried but didn’t really understand and just trying to find a safe place to seep considering it is literally snowing and 22 degrees. They claimed to have the spot and we had to move on our way. It’s not the fact that we didn’t reserve it.. the problem is that they wait until 12:15am to show up and do it in such a frightening/disrespectful way. They seemed to be local hunters. About 1 car drives by every hour or so which wasn’t bad. A couple bars of good AT&T. Wouldn’t stay here again unless I got a reservation.
Report Check-InSecluded, set back from road. Big site for about 3/4 sites depending on what your doing. Fire ring and table, very clean. A lot of people drive in and have to come all the way to see that someone is there and turn around. Trail off of back of site. It’s a favorite for sure!
Report Check-InQuiet, very chill. Did my best to acquire a permit on short notice but wound up just staying in my car at site 16. If anyone else comes through and manages to decipher the correct email from the voicemail message, that would be a handy thing to leave in these comments.
Report Check-InWe weren’t able to get a permit, so we left after eating our breakfast.
Longish entrance, slightly rutted & just a bit muddy in 1 spot.
Large private circle clearing with a road that continued beyond the campsite. (Didn’t look like it was used)
Picnic table & fire ring w/flip grill.
Dark sky & sooo quiet.
Verizon 3 bars LTE.
Fantastic boondocking site. Arrived after sundown, even so, it was easy to find. Selected site #15, a private, large and level site perched on a rocky ridge, with a picnic table and a fire pit as well as parking for two vehicles. Woke up, after a quiet, uninterrupted night, to snow flurries, so we didn't hike or explore the area. Maybe next time.
Report Check-InAbsolutely amazing!!! Such a relaxing spot. You do need a permit, I called no one answered, I stayed anyway, no problems. There is a picnic table with a fire ring and a small gravel lot. There are atv trails which are great for a little stroll down into the woods! Slight highway noise but you definetly tune it out and can’t hear it in your car! I had 2-3 bars and LTE on Verizon the whole time I stayed. Created a Hotspot with no issues or cut outs. 10/10 if you want a secluded wonderful night and day honestly.
Report Check-InNice hidden gem, there are nice campsites and cabins all along the road spaced far apart. We saw a lot of wildlife but didn't have time to explore trails. The park office was closed and there was nobody to talk to on the phone to get the mandatory free permit because of the Covid-19 pandemic so we decided to park anyway and hope for the best. We arrived before dusk and left at dawn with no disturbances or visits from anyone to verify whether or not we had a permit despite signs saying that it was strictly enforced. Great place to see deer in the evening. Well maintained in spite of it's obscurity.
Report Check-In570-895-4001 right phone for free permit. We call 5 times, nobody answer, we stay without permit. Sillent, dark, nice.
Report Check-InA few notes:
Must be accessed from 84. If you try to drive here from south of the site you will hit a gated community called hemlock something and will not be allowed to pass.
The Phone number provided works sometimes. I ended up emailing for a permit and the woman who called me back from the number I left in my email was very disagreeable. She said that these websites listing free camping here cause a problem for them because they give incorrect information (though what information was incorrect I was not clear on).
The site that these coordinates take you to is currently flooded so I camped in site 15 which was maybe half a mile down the road. When you register for the free camp permit it requires you to say which campsite but fortunately even though I reserved 16, no one had claimed 15 and I was able to stay over night.
The road is fine, only a few muddy potholes that didn’t cause any trouble for my 2wd van, but some of the sites are muddy and possibly impassable.
Came here in March and it snowed 2 inches. Gate at entrance with no lock just have to close after you enter. Great flat quite spot with fire ring and table!
