Three great primitive campsites along this road. All are off the road to the left down right spur roads, each designated with a sign. Has fire ring, table, and a rough pit toilet. First and second site are directly on the river and gorgeous, third site is slightly off the river.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Been boondockin since the first for the Eclipse. parking lot and driveway plowed! Three spots, not plowed, need 4×4. I cleared the remaining fallen trees out today and walked the 1.6 miles to the furthest camp spot. Verizon works here!
Report Check-Inroad only plowed till boat launch, can still see the road. May not be allowed to camp. Time will tell.
Report Check-InMany camp spots down the pot holed dirt road. Great area near the river. Busy while we were here.
Report Check-InWater was really high but beautiful spot. Road getting to the site is beat up and bumpy but 4x4 is not needed as long as conditions are dry. Stretch of River is Fly fishing only
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. Bring mosquito spray. This is an authorized site, not a primitive sites. You will see signage for both in the forests here. Both are usually free and have steel fire pits. The difference is that in Maine, a primitive permit site requires a fire permit which one can get at a forest office. It is a free permit but you do need it if you are at a posted permit site and plan to have a campfire.
There is a sign here saying it is $5 per person per night to stay at any of the sites on this road and someone ‘will come by to collect’ but nobody did.
You can also walk across the main road to the lake to fish or swim. It is a free recreational area but you cannot drive down the gated road, walking only.
Report Check-Inthe first two spots were taken. the road gets pretty bad the further you go.
it is very quiet though. and dark.
Still a valid spot to camp right along the beautiful water. There is now a sign at the front that says active logging road.
Had no issues driving in with a Sprinter. Lots of potholes.
There are also signs saying No campfires.
